Thread: Medical

  1. Medical

My daughter has just come back from her medical very disappointed. She was fine in all respects apart from an entry on her medical docs relating to a hip issue (bursitus or fluid on the joint) which affected her three years ago. She went to our GP who prescribed pain killers and rest. It has never re-appeared and she has been training hard in the gym ever since. The medic is going to ask our GP and a specialist for there opinion, but if it is a rejection, can she appeal? The doctor told her "you might be OK going for a trade with a low fitness requirement like engineer, but I don't know about medic" which to me shows they dont understand the basic fitness needs!

  2. Welcome to Capita. I worked with a guy who was going through an internal commissioning scheme. Passed his AFCO interviews, OASC and also the trade requirements but was rejected on the medical. His medical declared him unfit for any military service which we all found really stupid considering he was currently serving, ran cross country for RAF and swam for station. They rejected him because he once had 3 weeks off for a chest infection.

If she's found unfit, just appeal. Simple as that.

It is a good rule in life never to apologise. The right sort of people do not want apologies, and the wrong sort take a mean advantage of them.

You can appeal all rejections, and the fitness standards are exactly the same for all roles for entry, so I'm not sure why they've said that. If she can pass the fitness test they should allow her in, as long as they believe her health issue is not within a window of time that means it can still be considered a problem.
I understand the feeling. They've tried to kick me out for the same medical reason by mistake twice. I know what it's like dealing with it.

  6. Best advice is speak to your AFCO but, you can appeal this. Gather evidence from your own Dr etc and then post that to an address for the Dept of Occupational Medicine that your daughters AFCO can give you. This appeal will be looked at on an individual basis by a Dr and you will get a decision.

As for the statement by the Dr at medical of engineer and medic etc that is silly. The medical standards do vary a little from trade to trade but not that much as far as I am aware. As others have said, welcome to the mysterious world of Capita!
