Those petitions are just a bit of PR really. From every one I've signed up to the result is usually some nymph at the number 10 press office giving indepth reasons as to why they won't be doing whatever the people who signed the petition have asked for.

..It's worth a try but it needs some kind of lobbying group behind any campaign if it is actually going to get anything done.

Unless of course you're asking for Jeremy Clarkson to be Prime Minister, in which case you'll get a 'humourous' video reply on YouTube...

    hello,
    http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/ROCAVeterans
'Cap (Beret) in Hand' still looking for signatures support
from e-goat members. I've got on hold Nell McAndrew
    UK Celebrity/Model (honest)
who has offered support 'but' I don't wish to waste
her valuable time If I can't raise the support.
I've got various Ex-Services UK full support & the latest
the Merchant Seafarers Asc' plus pledges of support from
various branches of the USofA Veterans Agencies, sadly
    only open to UK members.
I've already discussed the situation with the PM
& Defence Committee which the e-petition is another means
of support, so c'mon (humour me) 30 seconds of drinking time
    not a lot to ask..
    Regards
    David
