Downtime !!!!! |
|
Jun 25, 2008 - 8:10 AM - by wobbly

First off let me aplogise for the downtime last night. I've been working throughout the night to recover from a major foobar on behalf of a script which destroyed our website database. Yesterday evening I asked our webhosts to install this script to protect the website from hackers. I then went out for a meal with the Mrs and the kids. Upon my return I was greeted with over 4500 e-mails from the website server reporting database errors. So, after a very long night of hard work and trying to restore a massive database I regret to inform you that yesterdays posts are lost alongside any new membership accounts that were made as from about 19:30 23rd of June onwards.
Right, now all thats done I'm off to my pit.

For all you people out there that don't know about our home from home site then please add E-Goat Down to your web browser favourites. This site was set up a while back so that people could still chat when maintenance or problems exist on the main site.

Charity work over the last 12 months. |

Since it's inception in September 2005 the site through it's loyal membership and volunteer staff has strived to acheive an ethos of comeraderie and benevolence. In it's most basic role it is a place where like minded people from an RAF or service background can find company, friendship and enlightenment. From these positives has risen a website that now gives something back to the service community and shows a united spirit that is hard to match in other walks of society.
Normal funds are generated by running advertising (Google Ads) on the website and by trimming the subscriptions/donations after acquiring enough money to pay for the next years hosting. Also, all our merchandise profit heads straight into our charity pot. In the future we are looking to run an annual charity event in to further boost the funds we generate for our chosen Forces Charity.
E-goat makes £0.00 for itself or its owners and all money raised goes towards funding the following years server and domain fees and the rest goes to our charity pot.
Nick Lock
Nick Lock, a young corporal suffering with colon cancer needed help to purchase new cancer fighting drugs to help fight his second bout with the disease. His friends with whom he worked with informed e-goat about Nick's plight and everyone jumped into action by allowing the community to donate to Nick's fund and by sourcing items to carry out a charity auction. E-goat and it's community managed to raise a staggering £4200 within 4 weeks to raise the £27000 that Nick needed for his treatment.
Gemarriot hands the first installment of our donation to Nick
Unfortunately, shortly after Nick had started his treatment on the new drug he had a turn for the worse and sadly passed away. We would like to personally thank each and everyone of you for your efforts.
Rest in Peace Nick.
Combat Stress
This is our chosen charity for 2007/2008 (Until 1st of April) and at the moment we have currently donated £500 to Combat stress with another £1500 heading their way between now and April. If you feel that you want to donate directly or to find out more about Combat stress then please click here. £847.83 was raised towards our next donation during a quiz night by Mad_Collie and colleagues ay Al Udeid Air Base.

The above websites are owned by ARRSE. The E-Goat is an independent website ran by Serving RAF and ex RAF Personnel for RAF Personnel and thus have nothing to do with the above websites. Jointery? No thanks.
