Here's a posuer for all you HR types, I'm getting married soon and me and OH are moving into quarters (yipee!), we currently rent privately, now can I claim DA? I'm pretty sure you weren't allowed to in the past because it was setting up your 1st home ect, but I heard on the grapevine thats all changed post JPA. Any ideas?

You can only claim Disturbance as a result of a new assignment or if you are forced to move SFA mid-tour. So if you are getting wed and getting assigned (posted) at the same time then yes you can otherwise it is all out of your own pocket. Full regs are in JSP 752 which your friendly admin staff should hold.

Or you could get your OH to claim he/she is an asylum seeker and you will get a decent Local Authority house down the local village. That way you don't have to live behind the wire and in scabby old DE houses.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Worth a go!

If i say the Dorris is from Yorkshire, does that count as an Asylum Seeker? :PDT_Xtremez_31:

Hmm I was under the impression that it paid out regardless now under JPA, guess I've been sold a kipper.

If it paid out regardless we could all keep moving in and out of quarters.
£1600 if you move into your own house!

I know someone who's off overseas soon and gets the same as someone moving from own house into quarters down the road on assignment. How can that be right?
"yes thats right you can't take all your stuff with you and yes you will have to insure everything yourself in storage and while we ship it over for you for only £500 for the time it takes to get from door to door."

I don't think it is worth his wife claiming assylum, I don't think the cypriots are as generous as we seem to be....

Well without wanting to be a total geek the JSP 752 says:

Mid-assignment Moves. DA is only payable for mid-assignment moves where the move of accomodation is for service, compassionate, welfare or medical reasons or where the service persons accomodation entitlement changes.

Now the way I interpret that is that my accomadtion entitlement has changed, from single living accom (block/mess) to Married quarter, so it would seem to me that it should be paid in this instance.

With JPA you can put the claim in and see if it gets through?
But as you already live out you are already getting the bonus of cheaper rent in a SFQ. Although that is changing and is a totally new topic, so don't get me started on that one..."..bringing them into line with commercial rates.."
When you get into the quarter have loads of kids as this is the easiest thing to change your entitlement, yes you may have to wait a couple of years. Don't forget to have one of each sex though....and even then they will resist.
