What a nice phone you have here and would like to get this item for my step son who is currently studying in Africa as a congratulatory gift.I would have love to bid like others but the nature of my job will not allow me to do this at this time, I will be offering you £150.00 for this item. So please if you are interested in selling this item to me, kindly send me your PayPal email address and full name in other for me to send out payment immediately via PayPal or you can forward your full information to me to send the payment via Nochex Postal Order, As i said earlier am offering you £150.00 for this item this will include both the shipping and handling cost to Africa.

If it looks fishy and smells fishy, its a fish. Avoid at all costs.

The only thing you should do with that is forward it to spoof@ebay.co.uk

If your uncertain, report it to eBay to see if she is kosher. If not they will ban her!.

Have you checked her feedback?

Stay well away from any bidder from Africa - This has been a scam for years especially with mobile phone auctions. Re-list it and then put on the advert that you will not accept any bids from Africa. You should be fine after that.

All he has to do in the listing is just tick UK and not worldwide...sorted!

If you did send her your PayPal details all that happens is when she replies to you saying you have new PayPal funds, she can access your account via the Trojan she has dropped into the e-mail and with key-strokes gets your password in secs and voila she has FULL access to your PayPal account.

Dodgier than a Bangkok lady boy mate. I had quite a few of those ones when I sold my last 2 mobiles on ebay. Even ticking UK sales only doesn't deter them. One of them actually hacked a kosher UK account and tried to buy one of mine. They even sent me an email reporting me for not sending the phone to them after they had supposedly paid the money into my paypal acct (which at the time I didn't actually have)

Steer well clear and report it to Ebay.

You still get them even if you do that, the scammers will hope that if they are offering enough cash someone will say feck it and give them the details.

Had shed loads of these scam e-mails from africa, italy, argentina fecking everywhere these cnuts.

Was looking a the scambusters site last night whilst it was quite funny it was also scary how long these cnuts will keep going to con you! scam buster (http://www.scambuster419.co.uk/index.html)

The reason I asked about the price by the way is that there is a scam where people offer over the asking price, or send a cheque for such items made out for more than the value of the item. They then ask you to send the balance having realised their error, if you do this then try to cash the cheque you will find it is counterfeit. This happened to a lad on one of the Sqns at my last unit, the result being that his father in law who tried to pay the cheque in (perfectly innocently) ended up down the nick, helping the police with their enquiries. My rule of thumb is that if something smells, steer clear. I do hope you have not responded to this.

No, I had my suspicions! Never even considered it, but this was the first time I've tried to sell something on ebay, and I wanted to be sure :)

Thanks all!

Oh, and, here is the profile (http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=r*dogs*2007&ftab=AllFeedback) of the scammer in question - it looks legit for a while and then got hacked??

I normally never touch these emails but when I sold my last phone I got an email from Poland, offering me a fair price and a little extra for the extra postage, I checked out his account, he'd bought lots of similar phones and had good (100%) feedback.

He paid by paypal and I withdrew the funds before sending the item so all clear there, on the other guy I would just never trust such a story from Africa and you'd have to be a fool to do so.

So don't discount all emails, just judge each by its own merits and always check their feedback and previous transactions.

As has been said previously, stay well clear and report to e-bay. Similar has happened to me on a few occasions - everyone was a scam!

Off Topic or maybe not !
I heard once that there is software that these guys use to pull dialled numbers and such off your phone, does anyone know if this is true or not ?
If it is true, is there software you can get to clean the phone before selling it on ?

Don't think the numbers are too important they can't do that much with them. With regards memory I always delete everything then load it up with music so that the old stuff is overwritten.

Number wise, just delete a couple of digits from each number then leave them on there, you could do the same with names.

Never, ever get involved with these african buyers, they're just scamming tw@ts.

However, if you want a fooking good laugh, Google '419 eater'.....

The 419 in the title refers to Section 419 of the Nigeria Penal code and refers to Advance Fee Frauds. This is where you get a mail like: 'My friend, I have a large sum of money that I need to transfer to another account and if you would provide me your bank details I will transfer the money into your account for a day and then transfer it out again, leaving $20 Million (!) behind as a thank you' - some thank you eh!?

What 419 eater (and similar) do is to play the scammers at their own game and after a long and drawn out play, finally let the scammer know that they have been tango-ed. Having them establish the trust of the guy the Nigerians want to scam, by posing in pictures with signs showing cetain agreed code words - 'I blow Goats' being a popular one is fu@king hilarious.

I think that the 419 eater guys typify the 'dont get mad, get even' line.

Enjoy
