View Full Version : Fuel Price Increase
Having just joined the masses at my local filling station to top the car up before the price increase at Midnight I was working out the maths:
2p a litre plus .035p of VAT x 4.54609 (litres in an Imp Gallon) gives us an increase of over 10p a gallon and we habe already been told to expect the same again in April! In addition this is after having the Home to Duty rate cut (and the duty rate) in Septembers Pay Statement, the oil market hitting over 80 USD a barrell which will also filter through over the next few weeks. :PDT_Xtremez_09:
All the press can talk about is an upcoming election!
Off Topic As an aside (I know aviation fuel does not include VAT) how on earth can the RAF budget for fuel when we must be consuming tons of the stuff shuttling backwards and forwards to the Middle east- what will we close next to fund this? Off Topic
I always have to laugh that, I live in eyes view of the biggest petrol refinery in the UK and today it's 99p at the local station!.
A damn pity my car won't run on government hot air!

Off Topic Who remembers the heady days of GW1 ? Petrol (4* not ****y unleaded-which is effectively 2*) was £1.59 a GALLON. When Kuwait got reinstated they flooded the market with `cheap` oil to get back on their feet-and you guessed it-petrol went up in price.
Just to depress you, its gone from 34.95 a litre to £4.31 a gallon. Off Topic

Just been reading this topic, it seems like it (fuel tax) is just a big huge cash point machine that the government can use at will! I believe no other country pay’s any where near the cost we pay per litre!
I found these figures regarding the 'Fuel Escalator', they make ...erm angry reading…
Fuel Escalator Forces Prices Up
This fuel escalator forced prices up from one of the lowest in Europe to now one of the most expensive. When it was first added, fuel prices rose by 3 pence a litre and tax contributed to 72.8% of the total cost. By 1997 the escalator had added 11.1p to the cost of unleaded petrol and was at 75%. It didn't get any better when the conservatives left office and Gordon Brown took over, as the escalator increased and 3 pence was added per litre. This took tax up to an incredible 81.5% of the total price of fuel.
Incidentally you can buy a litre of unleaded in Tenerife for 58 cents, @ 1.42 euros to the pound… something is seriously wrong with this country and its method of taxation, whether it be stealth or blatant! For every pound they offer in their election speel, they want three back!
Anyway, just a thought...

Guess I'll stop grousing about the price of petrol here. It is approximately one pound forty p. Of course it is a slightly smaller gallon!

Well its off to the supermarket for me, 5gal of veggie oil mixed with half a tank of diesel should keep me going for the rest of the month
What's this increase everyone is on about? Filled up at Asda, High Wycombe still only 92.9 a litre.

Although I really do appreciate a hike in fuel prices (with another one round the corner) just after our JPA Lords and Masters have mystically decided that my car has overnight become more fuel efficient, has reduced maintenance costs and is no longer subject to the previous levels of wear and tear.

Yet another kick in the nuts. First of all, home to duty gets reduced, then the price of petrol goes up. Genius. :PDT_Xtremez_34:
