I was looking at that the other day and wondering when we get em in Blighty and whether we get ripped off by 3 or 4 times the US price!
Looks outstanding though.

Is this basically the new iPod video thing? I'm a bit confused by it, it looks like the iPhone but it doesn't mention phone connection, although you can connect to the web.
Either way, don't let my Mrs know, I'll be $400 lighter come December!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..........
Why does everything cost so much more in this country???
Hows it going to work then? Mobile contracts? Pay as you go?
I fancy one because it seems to do everything.
A top of the range media/mp3 player is up to £200 these days but they have far more storage than 16Gb. Some go to 80Gb.
For everything you'd use it for is 16GB enough?
Let us know how you get on with it SSH?

You cant phone on it, its often described as the iPhone without the phone.
Im looking to buy a new MP3 sometime, as my current one is ancient and only 128mb. I have 150 albums and look to stick them all on it, which comes to around 9/10 GB, so 16 is enough just for music.
The new Creative Zen is out next saturday, £190 for the 16GB model, vs iTouch at £270, plus it can take the new HCSD cards, which will pretty soon be able to hold 32GB, but lacks web browsing.
The iTouch is on WiFi, so that means you can only use it in pubs with WiFi or at home etc, not like on the bus?
It only has 16GB because it runs off flash memory, all the high capacity models have a little hard drive in them, flash means less power consumption and less prone to damage if dropped, sat on etc

I was looking at this (http://uk.europe.creative.com/shop/product.asp?category=111&subcategory=125&product=1514&). Pretty good value I think.

Wait till Nokia release the new N95 in a month or so.
It has an 8GB hard drive
Shoots VGA (640x480) video.
Plays all your existing phone videos.
It takes 5 megapixel photo's.
Plays music.
Wakes you up in the morning.
Reminds you of all the birthdays and anniversaries you need to know.
But best of all you can use it to call a taxi when your out on the pi$$.
Failing that Sony K850 does all the above except the DVD quality video. Camera is better too.

Yeh thats the one its superseding, looks too much like an iPod spin off for my liking. Not sure if its just a better battery, but the newer version has 9 hrs extra life time and is a bit smaller too.

Don't be an early adopter with regards apple, they always launch a nearly product, quickly replaced by a nicer item a couple of months later.
I'm going to buy one of the classics 80gb for not much more than nano, I'll get a touch when the memory gets upto around 40gb and the price comes down a little.
As long as you can live with paying too much for the latest item then get the touch.

As long as it says Apple on the wrapper I will steer well clear and go for something by Creative or some other company. There is no way that I want to be tied to i-tunes and have to synch systems whenever I want to move files around.

Amen to that buddy. I had to install I-tunes on my Vista machine and the first thing it did was steal all the file associations from Winamp. I have an Archos Jukebox 20Gb, I might looka t getting a new one, but then again, my phone does all that for me so why bother !
If your interested, the O2 website is advertising the impending arrival of the I-phone. All you I-pod addicts can now have the Apple phone with them on contract from November.
