To celebrate 40 years of Radio 1, the Beeb is bringing out a CD of 40 cover versions of tracks from each of the last 40 years, covered by contemporary artists. Was 2002 so bad they had to use a Timberlake "song"? "Lola" covered by fat prat Williams??? F*ck me, but I'm afraid that they could have been a bit more imaginitive than this:

1968 – All Along The Watchtower (Jimi Hendrix Experience) covered by The Fratellis
1969 – Cupid (Johnny Nash) covered by Amy Winehouse

To be honest, I'm quite a big fan of the live lounge stuff that the BBC release. Usually quality covers and something different to the original rather than carbon copy covers!

Still wondering WTF Groove Armada are going to do with Madonna's tune!

With you there mono, looks like some interesting stuff by some great (and some not so great) bands/singers.

Heard the Foos doing Arcade Fire yesterday so should be interesting them doing Wings. Some interseting song choices and listening to some of the interviews yesterday the bands had a bit of free reign over choice.

Hopefully it will be as good as the Live Lounge album (Vol 2 must be due out soon too)

Nor forgetting Radio 2 was formed on the same day, and in my opinion a much better radio station today than what radio 1 is.:PDT_Xtremez_31:

Chris Moyles, the self-proclaimed saviour of Radio 1. More like fat, odious, bigoted spunkbubble...

This is one album I think I can do without. Why cover some perfectly good tunes. Especially Amy Whinehut. Fecking waste of oxygen.

Studs, there can be no more than a handful of decent choons on that list, some of the bands they have drafted in are good, but some of those songs? Definitive for those years? B0ll0cks.

And McFly doing a Jam song? That is f*cking desecration. I'd rather throw napalm on those mincy little jismstains...

TW@TT,

I agree with what your saying McFly/Jam..............WRONG. Not only restricted on that one.

But your style in music is different to mine and others. Granted who picked these tunes were deaf, dumb and blind. But could he play a mean pinball.

unfortunately, this album cant be all things to all people. they've tried to put an eclectic mix on there, and for the most part i think it could be ok(if the bands put a bit of effort in the covers, and not just copy the original).
incidently on live lounge 2 there will be a cover of 'the black parade' by cherry ghost, it is far superior to the original
