Im hoping i can get a general feel from people out there.

Im considering signing up for the full Sky package now im in my new quarter. Price wise, ill be saving on what i used to pay to 3 seperate companies for my tv, phone and broadband.

The reviews though for the service is'nt so good, see link

http://www.moneysupermarket.com/community/forums/sky-broadband-81.aspx

Do any of you guys have the package and can give me your opinion on what you think and how easy it was to sort. Also, i have no idea what speed my broadband would be at my new quarter, if someone out there can tell me where i can find out (with just my postcode as i havent connected to phone yet with BT) I'd be very greatfull.

Thanks all, over to you :PDT_Xtremez_14:

oops, I have been watching Sky since the 80's, went broadband with them a couple of weeks ago. I haev had acouple of drop out's but it always reconnect's fairly quickly. I only get 1mb though as BT haven't given me a 20th century line yet. But it is still faster than dial up and way more reliable.

Not so much the broadband issue but the Sky package we have. About 6 months ago the bill for Sky always came out of the other halfs account. Then one particular month she was changing banks so I made what I thought was a one off payment on my debit card over the phone.

Then when she set up her new account, my card was debited again!. I called Sky and informed them off this and was told my details had been removed. The next month again my card was debited!.

This time I hit the roof and informed them what they were doing amounted to account theft as they had no authorisation to debit any further payments from my card expect for the one off payment I had made.

Be warned fellow goaters, After I called my bank to get the payments stopped, a very helpful bank employee explained what exactly they were doing.

Keeping a record of the 14 digit number on your debit card. This means you cannot cancel it with your bank as its not a direct debit!.

The only way to stop what was going on, was to report my debit card as stolen and the last two numbers on the card where changed.

Have had no problems with Sky Broadband since I switched in October last year - it's far more stable than the BT Broadband I had before, with about the same connection speed (~8Mb/s). Getting out of the BT contract was more problematic (the gits tried to tie me to a 12 month contract despite having no record of me ever being told it was that length)

With regards to the Sky+ box - you could always just buy it from Ebay or a high street store (got mine from Dixons as Sky wouldnt provide me with a box whilst I was in SHAPE)

I don’t know if you can get Virgin where you are but if you can it’s worth a look into. I have got the full Sky package (including all the movie channels and sports channel), and being cable you never have problems with reception.

Also included is a TV delay box where you can record up to 80 hours of TV and pause live TV (useful when you are watching live footy and you need the bog). Additionally, we have a second box upstairs (not Delay though), a phone line with all the mod coms and which gives excellent reception, and of course a 20 Mb Broadband connection which runs great, all for £99 per month.

Only one slight disadvantage, we can’t get Sky News or Sky Sports news.

Is that a typo? Fecking slightly expensive isn't it

No, it’s correct. It includes phone line rental, Talk International, Talk Unlimited, Talk Mobile, Caller Display, the top TV package (179 channels), a TV delay box (and a free ordinary box for upstairs), all the movie channels, all the sports channels and the 20 Mb broadband. They will also do a deal which includes a mobile phone.

Sky can do it slightly cheaper but you have to pay for the extra box, also you have to pay BT for the phone line rental on top of the sky charges, their Broadband is not as powerful and worst of all, they will charge you £179 to install it (direct from their web site) whereas Virgin did mine for free.

Not really......we have standard sky with all channels (and a few extra music ones) which costs £49. BT for our telephone and broadband...comes to about £50 a month so in my eyes it looks like a cracking deal but we can't get cable up here (the ONE thing i miss about Waddo).

Crack on..........:PDT_Xtremez_09:

I want Sky+........i really want sky+.....

It looks fairly reasonable, 85 notes for the standard VIP pack, though I thought that Virgin still had some issues with Sky, with Virgin's unwillingness to pay overinflated licensing prices for some of their channels. Which probably explains why Sport News and News are available possibly. Still have checked and I don't have a hope in hell of getting it anyway as there is no cable service where I am at the mo.
