As part of an increase in of online security RBS are distributing new cards and these Card Readers (http://www.rbs.co.uk/Personal_Finances/Bank_Online/2FA_user_guide/index.asp?cmp=reader), I tried mine the other day and it failed to detect the card so after phoning the helpline number today they are sending a new one.
So i decided to pop the screws off the back(4 of) and have a good look at what the problem was. Turns out there is just a set of metal contacts that pick up you inserting the card, just give them a slight adjustment it works. So new card reader on the way and a spare.
If anyone has a similar problem or wants me to post a pic just ask.
