Lads and Ladies,

You have been very helpfull when I've asked previous questions on your trade but this one is boggling me.

I cant get to grips with my entitlement returning from Holland to Stafford.

I'm married with a young family (little girl) and we are all travelling back together. I was unsure of how to go about my travel arrangements so I posed to question to Gen Office staff (Joint Service).

I'm only entitled to Brunssum to Dusseldorf mileage, the trooper is classed as free so my journey into the UK I have to fund (I'm guessing this is right).

Then I'm entitled to claim mileage from Stanstead to Stafford and thats my lot.

So my questions are:

1. Can I claim mileage for myself, wife and daughter on both journey's?

2. What rate are we entitled to?

3. Can I claim the back the method I choose to travel with? i.e Ferry/Tunnel etc

I appreciate any assistance you can give me in my hour of need. This is a stress I can certainly do without as there are other pressing matters to deal with.

Thanks again.

Re 1: You can claim for yourself + 2 passengers (3p for 1st and 2p for 2nd passenger per mile on top of your mileage)

Re 2: PTR - check RAFCOM website for latest (UK) rates - 0.262p per mile I believe (may change on 1 Aug 07).

http://www.rafcom.co.uk/pay_allowances/index_pay_allowances.cfm

Mileage rates will probably be different on the european leg due to duty free petrol coupons - check with the UKSU at Brunssum.

Re 3: I think you have answered this yourself. If the official method of travel is from Dusseldorf to Stansted, all you will get will be the mileage at either end.

All correct. Even though I'm at Rheindahlen, Brunssum is my PU, and what you have been told by them is correct. Hypothetical mileage claims for you and family from Brunssum - Dusseldorf and Stansted - Ned Duty Unit. Nothing else, so get the cheapest tunnel/ferry you can as you will pick up the cost yourself.
