An exclusive regiment of British Sikhs in the Army has been abandoned on the grounds that it would be seen as a move encouraging racial segregation.

Sikh community leaders who were supportive of the idea pointed out that it would have been no different from the Scots, Welsh and Irish Guards or the Royal Gurkha Rifles, which recruits from Nepal.

'The Sikhs have a long and distinguished heritage of serving with the British Army. It crazy that the Commission for racial equality have gone against this idea on grounds of segregation.

Why not get rid of the Royal Gurkha Rifles? surley thats encouraging racial segregation too!.

So it appers that the Commission for racial equality have the final say on defence policy in this country!!.

Not sure how it could be deemed "racial segregation" as Sikhism is a religion, not a race.

Fcuking Hell!!! I wouldn't argue with them! Jeez - put them and the Gurkhas into baghdad - it'd all be over in a couple of days!

I think the creation of such a regt would be superb - the sikhs like it says - have had a long and glorious association with the British Army, I think it would do more for racial equality in this country than any amount of politicking!

What’s the problem with it, if a person from a racial (in this case religious) group, is happy with what is being arranged. Then what the fcuk has it to do with others??

It’s not like Britain would be the only country with a pure Sikh regiment… The Indian army has 10…+ 4 pure Moslem and 14 pure Hindu… Does it cause uproar, no, but they fight harder because they don’t want to be out done be the others.

Now on the other hand, the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh guards are segregated on racial grounds… will they be next… or the Scottish regiment???

I say, Fcuk of you cnuts, let us do our job our way… PC tw@ts:PDT_Xtremez_32:

....and once again a body, who has absolutley no idea of the ethos and mindset of the Armed Forces, is allowed to make policy on defence. It's about time some of our politicians (perhaps the new unelected PM) stood up and had the bo11ocks to actually tell the European commision and all the little quango's that bred from that erstwhile body, to Ferk off and leave our Servicemen and women alone! We are of a certain breed and the ordinary folk of this country will never get anywhere near an understanding of our humour, camaraderie and pride in what we do. I have recentley returned from Khandahar where I worked with a multi racial team of both men and women from (quite literaly) the four corners of the commonwealth, the West Indies, India and Nepal (and strangely enough, an Italian!) just to name a few. These guys and girls were proud to be in the Forces and want to do their duty without the interference of an unelected body who beleive their decisions are what the ordinary people of the UK actually want. Having just re-read this rant I think I should go off and take the pi55 on another thread! By the way, nice to be back!

How many "chavs" do you find being racist to Ghurkha’s, none as far as I can see because they have a very scary reputation. I think setting up a Sikhs regiment is an amazing idea; it would give everyone a sense of unity, which would 1. Promote Britain to Sikhs who maybe had had anti British feeling before and 2. Might help combat racism within Sikh/white communities.... bl00dy stupid idea not to allow it.

Racial segregation?? If everyone is fighting under the same flag but in separate units can that really be classed as racial segregation... don’t see how myself, hopefully someone will see sense soon

I think there are very very few Sikhs who have anti-British feelings.

There was an incident in Southampton that the PC brigade were trying to whip up the Sikhs against the local authority, the Sikh community basically told the PC brigade to fcuk off!!.
