Following the air show the station execs will no doubt be having a top secret wash up on the weekends events. So how about a goaters wash up on Monday???
Probably a forlorn hope but could we please refrain from a slagging bitch fest and recount tales of tasty totty, good weather, best bits, humourous errors, early stacks, shift changes on time etc.

Perhaps the thread should be posted in general chit chat and not RAF Cosford.
The majority of people who get roped into working the Cosford airshow are personnel who are on courses up there.
A disgrace and a waste of their time. If the station doesn't have the manpower it shouldn't have an airshow. We don't!

The majority of people working at the air show are not on courses, yes a large percentage of the man power for the weekend is taken from courses, but the majority does come from permanent staff. I don't understand why it's a disgrace and a waste of time, don't get me wrong I'm not happy about a working weekend, but a waste of time? Surley this event is good for the local community and relations, dispite our grumbles of a working weekend.

Exactly. Cosfords local community.
Why should someone on a course who may have planned to return home or visit elsewhere be roped into Cosfords airshow?
Do you get day visitors to the station to do a stint on the gate as well?
Can you see what I am saying? People on courses have no choice in the matter. If Cosford dont have enough people to do the airshow they should advertise for volunteers and not shaft people for it who arent theirs to shaft.

Imagine being on a course and being permanent staff like some of us!
As for a waste of time I agree.

Surely rather than return home or visit a loved one, it would be far more prudent to spend the weekend revising for the coming weeks educational festivities? What better way to spend a weekend working the airshow and studying! Now throw a weeks guard in...........::P:

One of our lads is over the Royal Cornwall Show this weekend. Anyone from Cosford fancy coming down to help out? It's really beneficial to our local community.:PDT_Xtremez_28:

I think that with the amount of SO1 type ociffers at Tossford, if they all mucked in the rest of the RAF could have the day off. What exactly are thry doin'....ah thats right "hosting visitors", in other words getting pi$$ed. Will they all be on the FOD Plod at 0630 Monday????

Saying that, last year a certain Navy Captain was out there with us at stupid o'clock in the morning of the FOD plod getting p1ssed soaked through (during a lightning risk 1). Right at the back with us lads who couldn't really give a flying fart about Fod. Nice chap just making up the numbers. As there is a great shortage or trainees this year I suppose the plod will be starting earlier than normal, say about 5:30 ish.

I suppose they could get alcohol suppliers that sell at a reasonable price. £3.20 for a pint of Fosters pi$$ water for FFS. Last time I purchased a barrel (88 pints) it cost somewhere in the region of £65. Where do they think they are, Wembley? The food isn't going to be cheap/reasonable either, £7.50 for fish & chips.
At least next year is going to be the last one, or so the jungle drums are saying.:PDT_Xtremez_28:

It wasn't too bad. Just ask SL if you can see the picture I sent him of me hard at work. I think I may just stay at Tossford next year, not so far to go.

I heard from several sources that this years airshow was the last, can anybody confirm this?
I heard that some microlights caused some problems for the sparrows?

B8llocks!!
It was a right load of cat w8nk if you had to stand in a hangar all day spouting sh1te to a bunch of airshow geekoids!
But for all the hard work and humping and dumping that was done, my wobbly took all the snco's to the mess for a pint and what did the cpl's get???

Don't know if it was microlights but they did have to abort the display mid-way through because someone entered their airspace.

what did the cpl's get???
Lunch boxes containing a melted Mars bar, a packet of soft mints, a carton of juice and a clammy warm sandwich oh and no tea. At least you were at Cosford and not dodging incoming in a warm and sandy place plenty of people there would have swapped that for a day of chatting in the hangar and eyeing up young ladies.

A Micro light and a Hang Glider entered the restriced airspace of the airshow and the Sparrows had to interupt their display. CAA are now investigating the incident!!!
It was a long day but as said previously, there was no "incoming" to dodge so not complaining, unlike some who whinged about working for a whole 6 hours on a Sunday!!!!
Get a life and put your job in perspective to those lads and lassies in the sand pit!!!!

I had a fantastic day stood there guarding the new MACH 2
Merlin the RAF have developed...leaving the geeks astounded
that a helicoptor could reach MACH 1 let alone MACH 2
