Here's a little rumour i've heard from a guy at work, you know the type. He seems to think that first time buyers no longer pay stamp duty up to £150,000 . Anybody know if there is any truth in this as i can't seem to find that gen anywhere!

I think he is just gettin confused with the stamp duty bracket being increased to £125,000. Just bought one for £145,000 on an SAC wage, argh!!!!!

Up to £125,000 - 0%
£125,001 - £250,000 - 1%
£250,001 - £500,000 - 3%
£500,001+ - 4%

For example if the property is £349,000 you will require £10,470 for the stamp duty. This is because you fall in the 3% bracket and it is 3% of the total value of the property.

Just for the record, I've been away for a bit, so it couldn't have been me that said this. I didn't have to pay stamp duty when I bought mine though.
