Ladies and Gents,

Many apologies if this has been covered before but....

I'm out officially next april, with resettlement etc, we are talking December. However... I've been offered a job starting in October, Can I escape early? Work wont have to gap my post as ( believe it or not) PMA intended to post me for the last few months that I had in the RAF ( got that in writing). So, can I escape early, and can I take the pee by making the exit date December and work for 2 wages during my accumulated leave? All comments welcome.

I remember some of the people who were out at the same time as me got early release dates to change jobs. Part of my application for my current job involved a letter from SHQ stating I could leave sooner if req'd. So it can be done.

Before you make the decision to take this job you will need to weigh up all the consequences. A lot depends on the reason you are due to leave the Service next April (PVR/Notice or end-of-engagement) and when your pension point is/was.

You can apply for a PVR exit date earlier than the minimum waiting time if you have a written job offer. PMA are not obliged to accommodate you, but they usually do.

You can apply to work for a civilian employer during terminal and/or annual leave. You cannot take paid employment during resettlement time (there are ways around this). The only kinds of jobs you will not get approval for are security-type jobs and work for foreign governments - for obvious reasons.

Jack,

Thanks for the info, Im past my pension point and put 18 months notice in to leave last year. There are no pension implications and Im not going to work for the French secret service.. I'm hoping PMA will let me go, as to keep me in, when they wanted to post me into a holding job to see out my last few months would seem vindictive and futile? Im also aware of the legalities of working on Resettlement..ta

I was in a similar situation to you and tryed the whole exit early with a written job offer. After weeks of dick dancing around PMA said no, this was due to service reasons. Despite a lot of redundancies flying around at the time.

So be careful mate, they can and will shaft you if they choose too. On a lighter note I did enjoy a very long wind-down and took full advantage of any resettlement/leave/claims etc.

I have ended up leaving with a very bitter and twisted attitude to the RAF and really wonder if "The Service" would of been better off letting me go when I wanted to ?

Hope this helps !:raf:

Ok , I'll update people so they know where they may or may not stand. I got a job offer in june, but my release date wasnt until may 08. I got offer in writing and asked PMA nicely if I could go sooner. Answer was swift and I exchanged a PVR for the NGR , and I'm now out and working in new job. Obviously I'm well past the 22 point so pension is sorted. So if they can help, they will. Best of luck.............
