Right then - fairly simple. Woodja has been a top bod and arranged a jolly old social for the branch for the 4 Aug 07. SO WHOS COMING??.

With the way the year has been going and god knows what is round the corner regarding TG17, I reckon it's going to be one of the few chances to get everyone together in one place.

So regardless if you think football is a girls game or your Chf Clk thinks that you're all too busy (YOU ARE!) get your asses down Uxbridge and makes this one event that all will remember - young & old!

So that'll be PSF everywhere closed on the Friday before and the Monday after for 'Staff training' then huh? Or is it being classed as team bonding? or an exped? or a top table? or a BBQ? or rationing? or stocktaking? or an excuse you haven't thought up yet? :PDT_Xtremez_05:

Going to bite (Someone has to) - bit unnecessary that. Any PSF I have ever worked in may have "closed" on the door, but will deal with urgent/compassionate jobs. Before we get the stick again, look around at other sections, how many leave early on a Friday and close in toto? Compare that to PSF, who you will invariably find open until at least 1700 on Fridays, later if the need demands.

I'm working hard to get a team together. It's going to be a struggle, though. We have a heavy imbalance in the female:male ratio (on the girly side), so we may find only a couple of us hardened drinkers will make it. I'm not panicking yet though.

So you aren't coming down then TBJ. Thank Fcuk for that. In which case I may just walk the 2 minute walk across from the house then.

As I'm the only shiney on our unit I can't get a team together but will be there (as long as Mrs TSP gives me a pass). Be good to have a few cold ones before I fly to Costa Del Basra a couple of weeks later! Many thanks to all who have taken the time and effort to sort this. :PDT_Xtremez_30: :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Uxbridge have just about scraped together a team - sending half of our staff to work in the London JSAO really wasnt a good idea (WRT the football anyway).

Last year we had 2 teams plus subs - this year we will barely have one :PDT_Xtremez_08:

There are enough shineys/writers/AGC in the JSAO to put together 2 or 3 teams of their own. Am pretty sure there was one London based team last year.

Hope to see more teams entered soon so the organiser can sort more info out.

Firstly thanks to the UXB guys/gals for taking this on.

Hopefully the mighty BWH will submit a team. Still struggling to get a team as the youngsters suffer from apathy, which is a sign of the times I afraid.

Only 10 teams have expressed an interest so far - and we have only received one deposit.

Hopefully we will receive additional details this week, as the original cut off date is 30 Jun 07.

Those of you interested in coming down for the day - go kick whoever is organising the teams at your units to get the paperwork down to us asap (please!)

If you can't put a full team together, just come over with as many guys as you can get. I wouldn't say no to a couple of extra subs - more importantly I could do with some Jupiler for my Perfect Draft. :PDT_Xtremez_30:

LOA, duty free petrol and a cheap weekend return on the eurotunnel (or 2 even cheaper day-returns if you pay cash in the Amex travel shop). It sounds like an excuse to me.:PDT_Xtremez_28: You could even make a profit on the weekend if you think creatively. 5-a-side tournaments are thirsty work if you know what I mean.

Would that be J6 and then NMR staff? Or am I still a million miles away?

We haven't given up hope yet, we have contacted another Unit across the border to see if they have anyone. I appreciate all the comments from Kernow (I hate using that word) and TBJ and we will if possible bring a team, but getting a weekend pass from the Mrs and then coughing up the eurotunnel costs doesn't bode well for the hen-pecked MiB!

Don't worry about the tunnel costs simply go down to calais and keep an eye out for some illegals and jump on the back of the same lorry.

Right so we are agreed, you sneak out of the house on Friday night (tell her you are getting a paper or something - wimmin are stupid anyway), catch the first available moped to calais, sneak on to a truck at calais, hitch a lift to Uxbridge - Have a hooli, maybe ref a bit (not too much as you are getting on now) and simply reverse the trip come Sunday (oh and don't forget the paper as she may get suspicious)

The good (?) news is that NAAFI have bugger all to do with Uxbridge - the bar will (I think anyway) be run by ESS with cans going for the normal £1 - and the organiser has been trying to arrange food to be supplied by Pegs (tm)

And I take it you will be buying the beers for all of us ex-SHAPIANs then (except J6) - I keep seeing SHAPE plates turn up at the gate every time I am on guard.

Off Topic Oh, and TBJ - let me/your best man know how you do on the board this week - am on guard atm so no idea whats going on (nothing new there then)

Coo - now thats a nice offer - I even have 2 empty barrels to trade (for the deposit)

Had a look at the website mentioned earlier - the £23 quid a keg seems a bit steep for me (£2 a pint?) compared to what I seem to remember the SHAPE prices (less than 20 euros if I remember correctly) - and yes, I know that they were duty free, but it's still expensive ;)

ps. Could be worse I suppose - you could be drinking Belikin

Got notification the other day on who is going to be playing in August and from the football side of things, the bods arranging it have done a sterling job.

So the more important question arises as to who is hanging around for a night on the pop in the night time delights of Uxbridge?

My fading memories conjures up nights of getting legless in the Met Bar (now Scruffy Murphys last time I was in town), pulling in the meat market that was Continentals (long gone - barstewards) and final resort, that old queen of grot nightclub that was discoteque royales.

The last time I was out in town the Old Bill had been open for a couple of months so just goes to show what an old fart I am (shiny-scot - I'm sure you'll read this so feck off already with your comments!!)

So from those who have visited a lot more recently, what are the bars of choice in Uxbridge these days?

Edit - suggest Goaters bring along an ident - we're bound to be the bunch who kick off the first game half cut!

We are down to 11 teams at the minute - one pulled out last week (cannot remember who - will bug the organiser tomorrow)

Pegs are out - problem arranging a licence for her to operate here, as it would cost £100 for one day, which she was not willing to pay, and we cannot afford.

Churchills will be open at 1700 for after match drinks, plus the sports pavillion will be open all day with cheap drinks and plenty of sarcasm (just wait till you meet the barmaid, all will become clear)

We do have a small problem with refs though - seems we only have one proper ref (a PTI) - we have been unable to source more (if you know anyone available please let me know - will have a VERY relieved organiser)

Oh, and Royales is now called Liquid - never been there though as CinC home command has other ideas.....

See you all here on Saturday morning - bring your drinking heads :PDT_Xtremez_28:

Uxbridge are gonna have a hard time this year though - last year we got the plate and the cup (had 2 teams obv) - only one team this year and more (maybe even better?) competition

I did post in this thread about a page ago on this subject.
Sorry to butt in, (I'm not a shiney) but I am a qualified ref, and I'm just around the corner. There are 2 or 3 more on my unit that I can approach too. Possibly not available first thing Sat, but I can help out later in the day at least.

Depends if he's allowed out to play - coming over to pick the family up after 3 weeks alone in SHAPE, not sure if he will get a pass from the boss :D

Wasn't sure if MiB was still coming over as SHAPE aren't able to field a full team.

It's weird this year - last year we had 12 players available and made up 2 of the 5 teams in the competition - this year we can just about scrape together one team. Just who's bright idea was it to send half of our players to work in London? And for those who have been to Uxbridge PSF before - you would be shocked at it now (just 6 clerks and 1 sgt now in the office - thats including man servs + 1 sgt in P1)

It's fine on the Admin Order Front as I had asked around anyway even though we are very thin on the ground, just couldn't muster much interest. Overworked, underpaid etc.

I was thinking that I would assist in the quality control of the Park Club rather than playing, will have a think about it though.

You're too kind, of course mate no problems, though I do charge a slight fee for the hire of my footy skills.

I'll bring a bottle of meths.

Sorry Kernow, we ain't coming. Tried to form a joint team with Brunssum with no success. We decided against travelling with only 3 players. Colostomy bags were all packed as well as my Devonian passport to allow me entry into a Cornish house.

Sorry guys, if it helps, I would have refereed as well.

Hopefully next year.

You know you have let the side down. Invitations for Devonians to stay in a Cornish House don't come round very often. As afterwards it involves bleaching the whole house to get rid of the Plymuff stench!

No worrys mate, sure we shall catch up at some point.

Anyone know how long the competition has been running? The organiser is in discussion with the sports board to get next years event made into a duty - so that folks could get help with travel etc.

I will ask around, though HS or Tommo might know as they have been around since the Air Force was formed!

That makes me feel a lot better, knowing you lot will be bladdered!! For info, the comp has certainly been running since at least 91, but it could be earlier than that. Ask a really old sweat like HS, Forgotten Name etc etc.

Easy Tigers!! My first Tournament was when I was at Stanmore in the 90's; can't say much before that 'cause I was abandoned on a Sqn at Laarbruch and probably wouldn't have been asked even if it was going on! The PMA Mafia (if there was such a beast) would probably know best (and you won't hear me saying that very often!!). I'm in the midst of packing too and will wave to you Tommo as I pass JHC (:PDT_Xtremez_28: ) but we're sending a drinking team (Shiney Arse & Shiney Scot) and fully expect to go out to the Girly team from oop north in the first round!

Good Luck fellas & have a greasy egg & bacon roll from Peg for me!!

My first TG17 5s was in Sep 1989 held at RAF North Luffenham; I was at RAF Bracknell at the time as an LAC. Cost £2.50 for a taxi from the camp into Stamford if I remember correctly.

Could future events be held during the week as other trades do (not all admittedly) - and would this help beef up the attendance? Might be easier to sell to the Long-Haired Chief of Staff for those who are under the thumb.

Despite several last minute problems (limited number of refs, small problems with the goals etc) the competition got underway yesterday morning.

After some very close matches (including a nail-biting final in the cup between Uxbridge and Northwood), we finally had our winners:

TG17 Plate Winners 2007 - High Wycombe
TG17 Cup Winners 2007 - Northwood

Many thanks to all who attended - the weather was perhaps a little too warm - especially towards the end when everyone was feeling run down - we hope you all enjoyed your Peg burgers, and (fingers crossed) hope to see you all (plus more!) next year.

Twas a great day, only sorry that I could not play due to a nagging sock injury. Thanks to all involved in organising. Note to self for next year, do not eat before catching sight of TBJ in sports kit!:PDT_Xtremez_34:

At least I have sports kit, teletubby! It was a very good weekend; it's always good to catch up with people you thought were dead. Perhaps next year we can have a concurrent veterans tournament to see if we can coax the likes of Humble Scribe, tommo9999 and Bitte Ein Bit back into a pair of shorts.

Runs for cover.

Are you sure that we could organise enough medics to cover that?:PDT_Xtremez_31:

Now there is one very scary picture. :PDT_Xtremez_09: Again twas all said on Saturday, but a big thumbs up to all involved on Saturday, both with the organising and all those who attended. Hopefully, a few other camps will pull their fingers out and get a team in as it would be nice to fill Uxb with as many shinys as poss (Trade Review not with standing)

ps - Humble Scribe - good job you couldn't make it as we managed to reach the semi's. Nah, nah nanana!!!

There should be a letter going off this week to the Sports Board requesting that the event be recognised as an official sporting event so that players and officials can get travel at public expense - will let folks know on the outcome of that one.
