a man's got to eat!
Why should he eat free just because he is innocent? I didn't commit a crime either but I don't eat free!

As sais in the article Gem, murderers and other convicts dont have to pay, so why should he?? Just because he was put there by mistake? I dont think so.
This country sucks!

they should pay for food out of their wages earned in jail.
This guy will be compensated handsomely for his time wrongly spent in nick, I don't think it is too bad paying a bit ackfor his food, he would have spent a site more if he had been outside.

Completely agree that they should pay out for their food out of their prison wages, but not in a lump sum upon release.
I think he should be compensated for being wrongly imprisoned. He is going to have to completely start again, money will help with that. Plus there is the mental side of things.

I believe they get paid peanuts for sewing them mail bags or whatever. It just gives them a bit of money to buy phonecards, sweets etc.

There's probably some legislation somewhere which demands they get the minimum wage...

Knowing this country you may be right! Human rights blah blah blah!

I beleive its in the region of £4 per week.
A prisoner does not qualify for the national minimum wage where he or she works in pursuance of Prison Rules.

Dont put ideas in their heads!!!!!
I think this story is ridiculous. The guy serves time for a crime that he did not commit yet still has to pay for food when murderers live free and eat free meals.
What is happening to this country?
Why did the courts not get it right in the first place?
This has been a total c@:@k up by the courts and regardless of how much money the guy gets he will findthat his life is destroyed.

One of the things that worries me so much about when the courts get it wrong and convict the wrong person (aside from an innocent man being punished) is the fact that a guilty man is still free. Everytime the Skegness Three or the Little Thetford Six are released 20 years after being wrongly imprissoned for murder, for example, nobody seems to be thinking "Hey, if these guys didn't do it, then that means the real killer is still free! Bugger I suppose we'd better do something about it!"

What can we do as mere mortals. We have to sit back and allow the courts to make bad judgements but yes as you say the real criminal will still be walking our streets day and night looking for the next victim.
Nothing will ever change
