View Full Version : JPA Expenses - Common sense at last?

With effect from 1 May 07, changes have been introduced to some allowances. Get this, they're changes that work out better for us.

Incidental Expenses We can now claim the full rate of incidentals for each eligible night away, i.e., £5 for the UK and £10 overseas. Receipts do not have to be kept, nor does the expenditure need to be justified.

Day Subsistence Periods of 2 or more consecutive days that attract the payment of subsistence allowances can be aggregated. So if you are away for 5 days you have £106 to spend. This means we can spend £10 one day, £30 the next and not be out of pocket.

Alcoholic Beverages Receipted expenditure for alcohol may be claimed. There is no limit on the amount of alcohol (as long as it remains within subsistence limits) other than that set by local commanders, but people are expected to remain within the spirit of the regulations, i.e, one half-bottle of wine with the evening meal. (Yeah, right).

The only downside is that receipts now have to be retained for 2 years, not one as before. This is a compromise between what the MOD wanted (one year) and what the Tax Office tried to insist on (3 years).

Nice to see, about bl00dy time. Has it come about by our commisioned brethren in Whitehall getting p1ssed off with receipts for the smallest expenditure? I do hope so.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

I think that the rule change has more to do with the Army coming online as our commissioned brethren count for very little in Whitehall unless they have that scrambled egg on their hats.

As a hint to my fellow scribblies. Read about the scheme that helps to get you back while you are on a sunshine or RAFG tour. Makes for interesting reading. Not to mention the chance of actually still being in pocket after going back to visit.

As a fellow Scribbly on an overseas tour - what are you talking about? The Support Unit here is awful!

The GYH(OS) scheme is nothing new. In essence 1 return trip to UK for Service person + eligible dependants (The missus loves that word) per year. Claim to be for up to the MOD approved flight cost (£120 in Germany), plus hypothetical mileage to leave address. A very good scheme, just used it myself. Your UKSU should have the gen.

You might want to check the SHAPE Special URO on the very subject. As an aside Gladiator may wish to clarify his support unit comments to myself (the Chf Clk) at any time he wishes. This e-Goat is great isn't it!

Speak to you later Rob....................::/:

Following my meeting "without coffee" in the UKSU following my earlier comments, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the UKSU staff for their continued fantastic support to the Top Shape Golf Society. See you at the 19th hole.

Especially as the refund is the number of people times the miles times the leave rate. So a family of 4 gets about 90 pence per mile!

At last, a victory for common sense...

4. JPA Inputting. Prior to 1 May 07, individuals on a 30-day detachment would need to control the equivalent of 60 separate imprests (an IE and DS imprest for each of the 30-day periods). The new approach will equate to one imprest for DS for the full 30-day period and a one-line entry. The changes have the added advantage of enabling single line entries on JPA for IE and DS claims. Hence the exemplar 30-day detachments could be submitted using only 2 lines on JPA, one for DS and one for IE.
