Odiham v Lyneham

To be played at Halton 2 May 1500 KO

Great semi's shame nothing put on after games, if it was at home station food, beer etc would of been supplied, never mind "rose and crown" made a killing

Odiham on for the treble "league,10's union"

Lyneham in for the cup instead of plate as last year

should make a crakerjack final

Honington 6-0 up and absolutely stuffing Lyneham in the scrums. Lyneham pulled off one of their front row players who was allegedly "injured" and funnily enough had no front row replacements on the bench, therefore the match went to uncontested scrums and stopped honington's primary source of possession. Lyneham went on to stuff Honington, but was this fair??? Nothing against it in the competition rules.......but.......sportmanship?????

Discuss!!!!

Thats part of the game mate, always has been. Honington would've done similar stuff to get the upper hand as well.
On a brighter note it may be a sign of RAF rugby 'toughening up' it's the only way we'll ever be able to compete with the other two. For far too long we've played it as a gentlemens game, which gets you nowhere in modern rugby.

i agree it was'nt very sportsmanship like, but they played the system and got away with it, one thing i dont get, why was there no replacement front row, i always thought you had to have at least one, i was asked for ours by the 4th offical in our game and to name the 7 replacements, hope they dont play the system against us in the final.

as for 'toughening up it seems to me that Honington HAD and Lyneham could'nt handle it and had to use uncontested scrums to get to the final, how is that 'toughening up' the RAF cup and the RAF rep side

I meant the general ethos that we play the game with in the RAF. Lyneham turned over Honington using the games laws in a proffesional manner. The proofs in the pudding.............Lyneham go to the final, Honington don't.

I was of the belief that you had to have a front row replacement on the bench or you forfeit the game, certainly used to be the rules in the prelim rounds; the reason many teams do not compete now.

I would suggest that the Ref was faced with stopping the game early on and awarding the match to Honnington as it should have been or let the game continue as it was a semi final. Technically he was wrong but i can't think of the Laws being enforced anywhere before I'm sure somebody will come up with a example.

The competition rules were changed to tighten up for the prelim rounds only.

Semi Final Scores:
Honington 6-52 Lyneham
Cosford 32-34 Odiham (After Extra Time)

Cosford were 10 pts up with 90 seconds to go in extra time, Odiham came back and scored a try but missed the conv. Time had elapsed and all Cos had to do was put the ball into the middle of Aylebury and that would have been that; however, Cos player was caught, got turned over and Odiham scored to tie the scores, got the conv and the ref blew for time. A fantastic game that was played in an exemplary spirit. Congrats to both teams for playing open running rugby and was a joy to watch.

If a team names between 1 and 3 replacements they must have at least 4 players trained ( and experieced) to play in the front row, if they name 4 to 7 replacements they must have 5. (these players do not have to start the game on the bench they could on the field from the start)

If they cannot fulfill this requirement they may start the game with no replacements allowed.

The situation were the 1st time a front row is replaced the srum becomes uncontested could happen if the replacemet front row actually started the game in a different position and has already been replaced due to injury (if he had been replaced but was fit he would be allowed to rejoin the game as a front row replacement).

when I played.......just a few years ago. USING the rules or more like the referees inadequacies.......was not good form!! If that was how a semi final was decided, it is all credit to the lack of direction shown by RAFRU officials. The only loser on that day was rugby!!
When I played you knew you'd lost because the better team had beaten you in all aspects on the field of play!! Then you'd buy them a beer and say well done. Can't imagine any beers were bought after this game.

Using the Laws of the game (no rules in rugby) has always been part of rugby, anyone that thinks otherwise is sadly mistaken (or just a bad player who doesn't understand the laws well enough to use them to their advantage).
