I have been told that you can get stuff VAT free when out in the Falklands.
Is this right...and if it is, who is the best company to use for getting a Laptop shipped out there VAT free?

I've done 4 b****y tours down there and that's a new one on me.
I believe that if you have a BFPO number that is the case, however not sure if it applies all across the shopping spectrum. I know that most of the "outdoors" type suppliers will ship things to you tax free...Without naming names, they supply walking boots/jackets etc etc...

Be aware though, that if this is true, not all companies will ship to a BFPO address. We had right problems with this in RAFG

I don't know if it is true for the Falklands, but there is a well known computer supplier (4 letters, rhymes with Bell) that deducts the VAT at source if you are eligible.

I'm just saying that you have to be careful when you're ordering by mail and read the small print. Only last year a mate had trouble getting a guitar amplifier sent to N. Ireland because he didn't check first

Theoretically its true you can get stuff VAT free however, not all companies will do it, though many will. Many lads down there with me a couple of years ago got cameras and Ipods etc. Biggest risk is that anything over 2kg will not necessarilly go down there by air, ships are infrequent and your laptop might take 3 months to get to you and be well corroded and ****ed after a few months ina container and a few weeks at sea

Heard Dell and AMAZON and Maplin do stuff UK VAT free for eligable addresses. Have to remind amazon! but think other two know the score and don't charge you. Then leave it up to you to declare it if you need to when you come home.....!!!!But remember the timescales if you miss the boat, you will have to trust your replacement to send it on. So don't leave loads of work for em....
