View Full Version : The Metrix Effect

Quote from Goatherdingsplitter - "Sadly from what I hear, civvy instructors are jumping ship left right and centre so there won't be many left to strike if they wanted to"
The above quote prompted me to start this thread. It is probably a forlorn hope but could we please try and keep the level of this thread up a few notches and not turn it into a former RAF v current RAF bun fight. If E-Goat mythology is to be believed then the airships employ humble minions to read our musings and report back.

As documented on numerous other threads Cosford will by 2012/13 no longer be the home of aircraft trade training. The fall out of this decision and subsequent morale collapse has been described recently as the “Metrix effect” nice touch seems to fit the situation well.

So just for starters in the rigger sooty world 33% yes 33% of the civvies will have left by the end of May. Now before all the still serving members start the “fecking civvies b0ll0x to ‘em serves them right etc.” please just remember if the civvies bog off who is going to be nominated to pick up the slack. Recall what happened at Valley? or the Airworks fiasco? Etc. back filled with reluctant blue jobs that didn’t want to go. Just to cheer everybody up a bit more even the blue jobs that are currently here aren’t fairing much better either as most have been ring fenced and are here until shut down. Many an escape tunnel has sadly collapsed in recent times. It seems the only blue suit way out is promotion or de-mob.

So fellow goater’s at the west midlands training college, what’s happening around the bazaars and have you experienced the Metrix effect of people exiting stage left at speed?

Well, with a drive recruit more instructors to fill the void I reckon anything that breathes oxygen and turns up on the day of the interview will get a job.

And before any smartass quips anything, yes that IS how I got mine ::P:

Not even promotion gets you out.................... So scrap that idea aswell.

Believe it or not a promotional video is being made at said unit and a road show prepared to go around the RAF looking for potential instructors!!!!

If they class it as a screened tour with no OOA, I can see a few bods coming out of the woodwork.

I've been digging my escape tunnels from the day I arrived back here...... for them just to collapse around me.

I'm afraid it definately isn't a screened tour and the instructors for the road show will be volunteers from around the bazaars!!!!!

Trip to Scotland anyone????

To my understanding certainly in the rigger/sooty empire it is a screened tour that is no shorter than 3 years and no longer than 5 years. You can apply for an extension though not many are granted and it's usually for personal circumstance issue. This policy was introduced some time ago by the then station commander to stop people escaping early i.e. before 3 years had elapsed and also to prevent people hiding away as instructors for years and years. When first introduced some people were found to have been here 13 years FFS. (You could here the screams from Albrighton as they were moved on)
On the OOA thing I don't believe there is any ring fence around instructors and you take your share of dets with the rest. Plenty of people in our building have done and are doing the dets in sandy places. But hey I could be wrong.

No screening here now ........... Just a normal post that you can leave when or if you want to ( unless your at S*it TS) and stay until you rot away or become welsh. This does not apply to officers who can still be posted on the grounds of career development !!!!!!!!!!!

I'll volunteer for the roadshow team right now, anything to get out of this pit of misery for a few days .........

I think it's a bloody good job to be honest, I just happen to be in the wrong place. Ask the boys away from the dark side and I'm sure they will say they love it.

Thanks to the 16 bods I have to teach inbetween licking drip trays ,scraping tape of walls and generally being abused by the bored and over manned management............. They make it worth getting out of bed for, the rest of it you can shove up your A*se I'd rather be in the sand pit.

Answer please ................

Why does it take 1 Chief to manage:

2 Sgts (sometimes 3)
8 Cpls (give or take)
and a few civvies who look after themselves when there not leaving.

And thats just for one office, this is all overseen by 2 Flt Sgts, 1 WO and the usual poncey officers.

Enough my blood pressures rising .............

It would appear that anyone who was breathing and could wipe there own arse was fair game, when the majority of the "job stealers" were recruited at tossford!
Lazy, moaning, FAT, sad and lonely bunch of mongaloid cockasourases springs to mind when discussing the "old people" in mong ts!
But thats not all, some even worse people who are "dying with pain" can still find the time to log onto e-goat and rant from home!

A couple of years back when i got my tapes, i thought about becoming an instructor eventually. Close enough to the home in Mansfield that i could commute at a push, nice hours and good for your career. Really REALLY dont fancy working at St Athan though, so i don't think i'll volunteer. Which is a shame as i quite fancied it! Oh well. Good luck to all you poor sods trapped there.

DM thanks for the sympathy vote matey we will need it, but we all know were sympathy lies between sh!t and syphallis in the dictionary. I for one am NOT going to Saints no way, no how, no matter what drugs.money or other inducements are on offer just NOT going ever, I will sweep the streets with a toothbrush first.

TAM and LHB :PDT_Xtremez_32: it was just a forlorn hope we could please keep this out of the gutter. ::/:

Anywho back on topic the 33% figure I used was just for the rigger/sooty empire what news if any from the fairy/leckie bit, the armourers and the squippers anybody jumping ship in your respective empires?

My part of the empire is, at the moment, 100% blue suit (if you don't take our planner into account, who is about to be leaned away from us). I shudder to think what will happen when metprix take over training. Still, looking on the bright side the heavy fleet may need people for the FSTA and FLA.

Bearing in mind jobs at Tossford can't be given away at the moment, and a roadshow is being put together to BEG blue suits to come here, they are being stolen from who precisley? :PDT_Xtremez_31:

I think you might need to alter your statement PSB.......

Remove Tossford and replace with S*it TS.

Remove roadshow and replace with shambles.

Remove BEG and replace with BEAT.

I think that might do the trick....

I know plans of any sort up at mong toss are hard to believe but I will enlighten you. Our planner is a top noch civilian (ex ranker) who plots out our courses and allocates to the few teaching syndicates. He lets us know when we can have leave and when we can't. He does lots of work in his own time just to help things run semi-smoothly. The friendly face that makes things tick.

Now thanks to the toss that is lean we are soon to loose this valuable asset. Our only sane and human link between adesoft (however you spell it) and the waste of skin civy training (miss)manager.

Sounds like a perfect scenario to me FLT, no wonder they're getting rid of it.

I think we may have something similar her at S*it TS, but its always asleep !!

As for leaving when he says so...... thats a briliant idea, we have to go up to at least Wing Co for that kind of authority..........

Civvies leaving because of Saints looming, I understand completley and wish them the best of luck.

Not being able to attract Blue suits, what the f*ck do they expect when they treat us like kids, perhaps they think we don't talk to our mates in the real Airforce and tell them how sh*t this job has become !!

I was chatting to a mate at tossford and he said the job was great, but the rest of the BS that goes along with it has ruined it and cannot wait to escape.
Too many managers and not enough to manage so they think of new morale boosting things for the lads to do.

The Haggis tour for "volunteers" has just finished, don't know how many have put their hands up but it won't be enough given recent events.
Across the road in the filing and smiling empire they are alledgedly down to 8 civvies and they should have 19!!! in the riggery there or just 8 left there used to be 14 civvy riggers. Sooties are losing blokes as well. Blue jobs a posting to sunnny Cosford may be nearer than you care to think I have a horrible feeling that they will have to back fill with servicemen in the near future or the edifice will collapse. On the bright side the ship isn't sinking any more there are so few people left that the all up weight is negligible so it won't sink. The Metrix effect seems be kicking in big time and it's getting worse by the week.

The deal with Metrix is still not signed only confirmation is that they are the preferred supplier.

Discussions are still taking place and it is still not a done deal.

Agreed the deal is not formally signed off yet but it would be a major shock if the deal fell down at this late stage. Blokes are still leaving in droves however signatures on paper or otherwise.

9 including corrosion, 11 including the planner and exam marker, 13 including the C2 and the admin.

At least one is going in the next fortnight, some are still looking elsewhere or are already at interview stages.

3 blue suits including the sgt. One of the cpls' is going November-ish, tour-ex.

From a purely personal point of view it would suit me fine if the deal did fall through. Pension trap, mortgage to pay, kids in pimary school etc. etc. fingers crossed.

Bibby thanks for the correction on numbers, guys still leaving in car loads though

I with you on that one TB, no kids but mortgage to pay. And despite all the posts throwing abuse at us recently, I'm still convinced that we do a decent job of producing future RAF Technicians. There are at least 4 two banana instructors here that we taught on Fitters courses that can vouch for that.
