Of course the trouble with civilianising everything is that civvies have rights...including the right to strike!

He said members taking action included lecturers at the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering, those providing computer systems maintenance and health and safety staff.
So there'll be no IT support and no H&S jobsworths. Some civvy lecturers go as well, but lets face it, we've stood in for every other f*cking strike!
Whats the problem!!! don't have whiteboards or OHP's still??? Unless theres no instructor, there should be no problem surely!
Unless of course some classroom instructors can only "perform" whilst reading the slides off powerpoint :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Don't know what they're complaining about, its not like we are getting at 60% rise is it?
Anyway, a lot of them civvy types at DCAE are ex raffies, dossing around until retirement age ;)

I know a couple of the lecturers at cosford that are going on strike and i must admit that i am in support of them. Not all of them are dossing till retirement age and some do know what they are talking about, and take pride in their work
1. I Never said they didn't know what they were talking about :)
2. Lots (especially instructors) are ex-RAF simply because a) its cheap for the MOD as very little training is required and b) Its good for the civvies because they get to have a relatively easy job, very little training is required and they also have their RAF pension ;)

Well to be honest, if the forces got a pay rise as pap as that, we're not allowed to strike, so we'd have to pull out the next best thing.
PVR anyone???
I don't suppose the move to Saints sometime in the future had anything to do with it eh! :PDT_Xtremez_15:
well if the civvies don't go the rumour I heard (from a Cosford instructor) was that they could employ and train ppl locally near Saints, Didn't they try that with an engineering contract for Tonkas a while back?

If your aluding to the Airworks fiasco, most of them were imported from elsewhere ! :PDT_Xtremez_15: When Saints MOD/RAF had them they were fine

ALLEGEDLY
The placard waving people on the gate this morning are members of the Prospect Union which represent amongst others the Burnham Lecturers aka BL's. I think they are whinging about the pay rise given to civvies of around 2.5% or about the same as blue suits. These BL guys tend to inhabit pprune they deliver the hard sums and science bits of training and are generally NOT instructors but lecturers. That is they lecture straight at you they just deliver the info and if you don't grasp it tough. The is a big big difference between instructors and BL's in many ways, pay, hours of student interaction per week etc. The civvie instructors are in work as normal, drinking tea, telling war stories and posting on the goat with the odd bit of instructing thrown in ALLEGEDLY.

Standing by for incoming Union rant or BL flak.

Prospect and other civil service unions are striking across the country today and its not all about pay, some of its to do with jobs being got rid off or given to industry. Many of the jobs carried out by civies in the MoD have been created by the reduction in service manpower over the years. Whilst many servicemen do not like working with or for civies in some places, most civies do care for the service they support. How much of that will you get when support of the RAF is handed over to industry who only care about profit margins.

Then we will be hearing something along the lines of:
"You can have your engines by Monday, but our guys are going to have to work Saturday and Sunday so it's going to cost you extra and we don't authorise the work until the cheque clears"

Something like that and dont forget that when we have to get ready for next war we follow the yanks into, you will be behind them on the waiting for those engines because they want more of them and will pay up.
Basically the goverment wants to reduce public sector manning because it gives a false sense of saving money, the fact of the matter is that in a couple years time when there is no service or civilian manpower to fall back they will be paying a lot more straight to industry without it going via the RAF.

Thereby finally paying off the companies who helped them get elected..... oops did I say that out loud ::/:

I'm sorry I was under the distinct impression that Waste of Space WAS a profit making company who only care about profit margins but then they can do what they want as Bliar will stop any investigations into their activities anyway. Cynical Me? :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Do you know, this really does p*ss me off!
How many people are on this, and other, forums complaining and whinging about JPA, the Pay rise, guard, promotion etc etc etc? And how they think an armed forces "union" would be a fantastic thing, blah blah blah!
Then, when civvies decide that enough is enough and decide that their pay and conditions are cr*p and that they should strike, which i might add is not done lightly, everybody gets on their high horse and comes out with quotes like these!
Workers in this country have the right to strike if they (as a majority vote) decide that their employer is being unjust. Or should we go back to workhouses and employers throwing people out of work willy nilly or making them work in dangerous and/or unhygenic conditions with extremely long hours!
Get real people!
I'm not a great union lover and believe that the shipyards, coal mines and several other businesses were partly wrecked by ultra left wing and radical unions and their leaderships calling for strike action over every little thing, but, workers need unions so that employers can't run roughshod over their rights and conditions of employment!
Carry on!!!!

Absolutely right in your arguement 230. Many people suffered so we could get the employees rights that our ancestors never had in the 18th or 19th century. Unions are not a bad thing, however the members of that union must be proactive not to allow the "activist" to take control for motives that are not in the true interest of that unions members (i.e. Aurther and the NUM,etc).
I feel the armed forces could do with a federation like the police. We are never going to go on strike, however the police federation gives members support that is unlike the forces presently (I take the example of the Southwell tube shooting against the court martials for abuse in Iraq. If the army guys had a federation, would they have been dragged in front on a Military court in the first place?)

It is a shame the civvies can't organise a proper picket line. I would have no problems with being stopped going into work and being forced to turn around to go home. My garden is a mess and could do with the attention unplanned time off could supply.
So come on civvies....do it propper like! blockade the entrances:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Dead on TB, I was fortunately taught by RAF education officers! Sadly from what I hear, civvy instructors are jumping ship left right and centre so there won't be many left to strike if they wanted to.

It seems the band of brothers are going to do it again on the 30th March. Some day of action thingy apparently, don't know over what issue this time though.

I think you find its part of civil service protests over pay, conditions, relocation etc etc whilst the guys at cosford may have disputes of thier own the strike is a national one not just confined to Cosford.
