sorry if this is in the wrong section, mods feel free to move it if it is..

some of the members on here of more advanced years will no doubt remember an LP that came out in 1978 "Jeff Waynes Musical Version of the War of the Worlds. It has been a best seller ever since selling over 14 million copies worldwide

last April, after much waiting and rehearsals, Jeff Wayne finally took the show on the road around UK playing 14 dates and selling out each venue

A further tour has been announced for December of this year and its sure to be a sell out.

for more info visit WotW forum (http://www.thewaroftheworlds.com/messageboard/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=15&MessageID=17337)

I already have my tickets, Manchester and Cardiff::D:

I've got the double CD (16 years old). Bought it as a fresh faced Jelly Tot down at Saints when I heard 'Forever Autumn' being belted out of the blocks on West Camp.

Although I cannot claim the original LP (it belongs to my dad!) I love War of the Worlds, still remember being scared sh1tless as a kid just after the Forever Autumn track the machines making that horrible 'OOOOOO LAAAAAA' sound!

Never got the original album when it came out in 78, but got the double cassette when at Halton in 84. Was better to listen to that the continuious "BAT OUT OF HELL" that was heard around Maitland at that time!!
(Got it on CD when back at Halton for IMLC in 05!)

I remember, "Two feet of shining screw projected when suddenly, the lid fell off." Seems to be missing this bit
"just goes to show that martians make lousy riggers"

"Lousy medics as well, forgot the antibotics and the Ibuprofen!!"

I remember being a very small scaley brat getting closer to the speakers of my dad's 'stereogram' to listen to the LP of the War of the Worlds.

"Noone would have believed that in the last years of the nineteenth centuary... ...swarmed and multiplied in a drop of water. Noone could have believed that life existed on other planets, and yet, accross the gulf of space, slowly, and surely, they drew their plans against us." DUN DUN DUUUHHH!!!, DUN DUN DAH......

love it.

I was lucky enough to see the show live last Summer at Sheffield.
It was amazing and i highly recommend people going to see it.
The live DVD is cracking but nowhere near as good as the real thing.
The band and orchestra were superb,as were the live performances and the effects. All in all a great night out for £40.

Mind you in the end the Martians die!!!

My favourite, bought the original LP, then the casette and finally the CD. Have got the tickets for Birmingham this December - can't wait, Justin Hayward (Moody Blues) sings my favourite song - Forever Autumn.

Has anybody heard the Orson Welles original radio broadcast from the Mercury Theatre on 30 Oct 1938 that made half of America actually think the Martians had landed? I have got a copy of it on tape, it is awesome.

As for the 2005 Tom Cruise movie - great special effects but rip off story. By the way, did anybody notice the two old people at the end of the movie who were supposed to be Cruise's wife's parents. Theye were the main stars (Gene Barry and Anne Robinson) of the original 1953 movie who were making a cameo appearance.

I got the double LP as a lad back at Cottesmore in the early 80's then got the new 5.1 Digital CD last year...sounds awesome on my super Yamaha 5.1 rig!!

I wasn't sure when I heard about a stage play, couldn't see how it would work, but now I've seen the trailer I really would like to see it!

As for the films, 1950's movie, OK, but in the wrong time and typical of America's b-movies (fun though), 2006 Film, again, wrong year... the story is set in Victorian London! However, good effects. There is another film version out that was actually set in victorian times as it should be, but on a lower budget and I haven't seen it yet.

Also, don't forget the American series spin off from the original movie, that was made in the 1990's, that was pretty good, but got shown around 0200 each week so there's probably not many that knew about it.....

Is there a film version of the ORIGINAL WOTW? I'd love to see a movie version of the Jeff Wayne musical. Imagine that soundtrack on THX!

ok, back from my travels to Manchester and Cardiff for the shows...

Its better than last years.......if thats possible..

a couple of new cast members. Sinead Quinn (Fame Academy) as Beth and John Payne (ex Asia) as the Parson Nathaniel, both excellent and as good as, if not better, than last years pair.

Richard Burton as the narrator is now a hologram projected up on the side of the stage, he talks to the 'actors' and generally interacts all the way through the story, his face even gets dirty and blood streaked as the tale progresses!!

I'm no soft soul but Chris Thompson's rendition of Thunderchild almost had me in tears... he really does sing that part well..

Justin Hayward was totally in command as usual, never a bad performance from that guy

Star of the show for me tho was Alexis James as the Artilleryman... that guy has made the part his own now i think

New special effects all the way through the show including a quite snazzy flame effect all along the front of the stage and a rushing wind that catches you by surprise as the tripods make their 1st attack, not to mention the updated heatray on the on stage tripod

A thoroughly deserved standing ovation at the end for all the cast and musicians, loved the lil boogie by the orchestra when they took their curtain call and the extra applause for the drop dead gorgeous percussionist Julia Thornton who seems to be getting a fan club all of her own

What a performance!! still whistling the tunes 3 days later

If you can pick up a ticket for any of the performances left i suggest you grab them while you can...

Not just a percussionist, a fine all round musician. Julia Thornton played the Harp supporting Bryan Ferry.

I went to Birmingham NEC last week to see the show, courtesy of my son who bought me a ticket for my Christmas present. It was absolutely brilliant, best show I have ever seen.

If you have not seen it yet, make the effort and go, it’s worth every penny of the admission fee. Justin Hayward can still belt out the tunes and the interaction with Richard Burton was amazing.
