Picture file too large

Help please. I scanned a photo to add to a thread and it wouldn't load cos it was far too large 1.6mb!!! How can I shrink the size of the photo to below the 200kb that is required. As you can see I'm not that hot on IT stuff.

If you register on photobucket ( www.photobucket.com) you can upload images to your hearts content. Then all you need is the wee text that starts with [img] and it'll be on your post with no file size limits.

Thx v much for your help. Registered with photobucket then added the link to the thread. Dont think it worked so I am obviously incredibly stupid! Duh me!!! Thx again anyway.

There is a free photo editing program out there called the GIMP (no really !!) at http://www.gimp.org. That should allow you to save your pictures as smaller files (.jpg, .gif or .png). The site also has tutorials to help you get started.

You could try image resizer from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

There are a few other goodies there such as SyncToy which i can recommend.
