Hi peeps, been out for the best part of 20 years now but still get requests for info from people who think I am the fount of all knowledge RAF wise (fools that they are!!!)
The latest is from a family member who is in the RNR and has some kind of training coming up at Halton. What he needs to know is what is the accom and the mess like also gaddaffi and any decent local pubs.
I only went there once in 83 to see a mate for the weekend and can't remember a thing about the place!!!

That's the best way to remember it.
The place should have been demolished at the end of WW1. God knows how Jerry missed the godforsaken place.

The mess is pretty bog standard, the mess food isn't the best in the RAF. Local pubs:

The Rose and Naafi (Rose and Crown) is just down the road and has pool tables and beer (really is a Naafi bar extension)

The Pubs in Wendover are ok, The Red Lion has a bit of a reputation as a fighting pub.

The Prince of India Curry house gives a 10% discount for service personnel.

What ever you do don't eat from the kebab on the way back up to camp (in the layby) that's from personnel experience!

Thanks everyone so far for the help. He's a common or garden deckape not a "pretty officer", so it'll be the airmans mess he'll be using and maybe in transit?

You know everyone slags that van off but I've always got what I expected from Pegs...A bloody great handful of grease and meat sweepings, perhaps with onions if I was feeling sassy, top with a square of cheese possessed...No food poisoning, maggots, fag ash, bugs or any of the other tales of horror that get passed from course to course...

Lets face it...if you've eaten your dinner at 5 'o' clock and it's now 2330 and you've 8 pints of WB swilling around your now empty belly you'd eat a scabby wraf shoved in between two breads vans given the chance!!

Blimey, still ? I can remember on my mechs course in 89 a load of mechs getting in a scrap with some locals there, and coming off worst. However the fitters may have treated mech like crap, but they didn't stand for that and retribution came in the form of a shed load of fitters going down a few days later and sorting the situation.

Depends on their rank, but all are not that good. Some superblock or singleman room in old block, Chiltern club (NAAFI) just been done out but nobody uses it. Nearest pub rose and crown (going downhill fast), some good pubs in Wendover, nearest club life in Aylesbury but you get ripped off by the taxi companies

that was about the same time as i did my course ( or maybe slightly earlier!!)

pegs was ace!! my burger recipes have been based on their specialites ever since!!

do you remember that pub (take left turn just before the village!) that used to have the strip show on a saturday afternoon????? missed many a 'tea' because of that, and hence my dependancy on pegs.....
