It seems the MPGS have pulled the rabbit out of the hat, by taking over the guarding over the festive period. Apart from one RAF bod per shift.

Nice one guys.

I'm assuming when normal service resumes post grant, that one blue job per shift will continue?

Or will they suddenly be unable to manage without the RAF inject.

Spoke to one of the MPGS a couple of weeks ago and I think Blue job numbers will go back up after festivities

Don't be led in to thinking they are doing it for unselfish reasons.

What will possibly happen is that they will take it in turn to go off sick and cover each other's shifts.

For example:

Man A goes sick on Xmas day. He will still get paid at the premium bank holiday rate of say Double Time even though he doesn't turn up.

Meanwhile Man B covers for Man A and gets the rate for the day + 50%. Therefore he receives treble pay.

Miraculously, Man A recovers and Man B goes sick on New Years Day. Man A covers for Man B

Each man ends up doing the same amount of work but with more money.

Manning will return to normal after New Year when there's no extra money to be made.

Let me clear this up. MPGS are Regular soldiers on a military local service engagement. We get a daily rate of pay commensurate with rank. We DO NOT get overtime or Bank Holiday rates. The simple reason we were able to downscale the SGF commitment over the festive period was that we cleared the board of leave and courses in advance. We are serving soldiers who have a good relationship with the RAF lads and lasses that "stag on" with us. If you want to know more then come up to Sy Flight anytime of the day or night and we'll make you a brew and show you pay statements and British Army ID cards and explain the realities of life in the MPGS. So please get your facts right before making derogatory remarks about a professional body with more military experience than you will ever accrue.

Hear! Hear! All of you at the secret Bucks training establishment should count yourselves lucky that you are at a unit where MPGS are employed. Otherwise it would be stags every few weeks and we wouldn't want that would we! These people have joined their organisation to make life easier for the rest of us - we don't have them here in the deep, dark North. We have to make do. I'd give anything to have them here - about to start my 3rd stag in 10 months. Appreciate what you have. You'll regret bleating about them when you're on SSGF back in the real RAF.

Seconded sospan! Rebel, are you taking the p!ss?

MPGS generally join because it's easy money and a cheap quarter, and they liked the camerarderie in the forces.

I like them, don't get me wrong, lots live around me on my street and we get on well. Nice lads. Good on 'em I say.

But you SERIOUSLY THINK they joined the MPGS to make OUR lives easier?

I think I've just p!ssed slightly. Either that or you're slightly p!ssed. :PDT_Xtremez_17:

I am for one grateful we have MPGS here, they are a great bunch of guys with more military experiance then alot of people on the camp.
I have done a few stints of Guard, and although it not the best duty, they make it enjoyable with the banter and stories.
Recently they have had alot of Lads from Hong Kong, now i've been getting free lessions in Cantonese!

Defenitaly an asset to the camp, and most people you talk to will agree! :PDT_Xtremez_32:

Calm down,

I was referring to my experiences with the civilian guard service who's terms of service and pay were aligned to civil servants, though many of them were ex RAF.
