Started this thread just before the goat went down, didn't get chance to check back and see if anyone posted. I know Uncle Buck is here (and he loves it) but is anyone else at Wycombe.

I dunno - a few people I have spoken to are aware - it just goes to show that some people do use DII for work.

Not that you'd witness any work going on if you happen to visit 'Harrier' or 'Spitfire' Block - wonder who got their promotion from that rename?

Which one is which? Take it that's E and F block.

Also anyone know the story with that monstrosity on 1 site, planted just outside D block (the big brass statue).

What exactly is it meant to be???

F block is called Hurricane.

The 'monstrosity' was once in the courtyard of the blocks they pulled down to the make the new carpark, I think they were A, B & C blocks, there's a bit about it on Dii Station forum.

Someone recently wrote some info about it, I think it was either just before this site went down or maybe on the home for home, looking for it at the moment.

Oops, just remembered where its written, its on the Station cdrs forum on the High Wycombe RLI site. I'm next in work Xmas eve, will try and dig it out for you then.

But from what I rememeber it cost £5000 and is supposed to represent a diving body merged into an eagle or something like that.

Lets face it, its a lot better than some of the utter garbage which is palmed off as art these days.

Asked about it amongst the section at our christmas meal yesterday and one of the lads reckoned that it once had a head, think he said an eagles head, but it got cut off as it wouldn't fit where it was origionally commissioned for. Don't know how true that is.

Don't know about loving it RTW, but you got your ar** out of the bunker pretty sharpish. Can't blame you though :PDT_Xtremez_09:

As for that statue, from a distance it looks like someone throwing up :raf:

Ah, found it if your REALLY interested.

sculpture as a piece of work entitled "Winged Figure" by John Farnham, a colleague and former assistant to the renowned Henry Moore. The shape of the sculpture was dually inspired by a bird of prey and by the shadow thrown by a human body, with arms outstretched and head bowed. The sculpture was one of four, produced by John Farnham in 1973 and cost £4000.

It goes on to sya that the artist visited the station in August.

p.s. theres a picture on the atist's website if anyone whose never seen it (its the big praying mantis thing at the top of the page.

I could be at Wycombe if I was not in my wagon touring all the camps in the UK.
