There is one story that is dominating the headlines at the moment:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/suffolk/6167411.stm
It sounds like somebody fancies themselves as a modern day Jack the Ripper (with less ripping).
This brings to the surface that the trade in this country is still rife and prospering.
Many other countries within the EU have a more tolerant view of the worlds oldest profession...Is it time we legalised it and, knowing Gordon Brown's track record, perhaps tax it for a few bob?
Without getting yourselves into too much trouble what experiences have any Goaters had? I'm guessing the Malcom club contributors might have a tale or two!
Discuss.
As we all know in germany it was perfectly legal and plenty of lads used the eros centres etc.
Personally I don't see the problems with it, the only down side is the British attitude towards it,where our fellow europeans have a much more liberated sense of morals ours generally tend to be quite restrictive.
You are always going to get the loony fringe who decry freedom of choice getting involved along with the womens rights movement.
Just imagine if it was legal and controlled, as you so rightly say Vim, old Gordon would be getting more than his fair share of taxes, the prostitutes would be tested for STDs, they would be able to work in a safe enviroment and their earnings would be their own, instead of having to give an amount to a pimp.
Above and beyond anything else it would go an awful long way to stopping the illegal trade in bringing foriegn girls over as sex slaves.
Right now that bo**ocks is over lets open the whore houses and have a special place for the linies:PDT_Xtremez_14:

The sooner it is legalised the better!!
Are they not legalising brothels in some respect as there have been many protests about them opening in residential areas.
It is the oldest profession in the world, and I, for one, have said that the women who do it to put food on the table for their kids, I can understand. Those who do it to fund their Crack habit - well they take the risks.
If I was ever so short of money I couldn't feed my kids, who knows what I would do. I have always said it is easy money!!
The legalisation of prostitution would help to stop the spread of nasty little diseases, as the workers woud have to have regular checks and be certificated clear in order to work. That has to be a bonus! (Explaining a dose of the clap to the wife is never going to be easy!!!!!)
As for taxing it? Why not? Take the tax off fuel and make the working girls pay income tax! Sounds logical to me!!
Yeah, agreed on all the above.
Thinking back to good old RAFG, the German system (and that of the Dutch for that matter) worked a dream. All the nightfighters were certified clean, the girls had somewhere safe to work, and the uglier members of the unit had somewhere to blow their wages (and other things) every month. 150 Marks IIRC (about £50 at the time) for a half hour of filthy stuff.
Club Rosa, the clubs at the Well border, all frequented by Brits on a regular basis!
A couple of my old colleagues were addicted to the places. We had one guy (who went by the nickname used by a science officer in a 70's Sci-Fi show) who would spend about 70% of his wages in one club or another every month.
The added bonus for me was that if your friend was upstairs, and you weren't partaking, you got free beer while you waited!
On a serious note, anything that keeps these girls safe and off the streets has to be a good thing. Let's face it, none of us want kerb crawlers round our neighbourhoods, let alone serial killers.

Second oldest profesion in the world so it must have something going for it. discounting fighting armourer is of course the oldest profession as since we first started killing for food we needed weapons but that's a whole different story.
Like most linies of my era I spent a bit of time wandering around the various redlight districts though I never partook of their services I did contribute a fe pfennigs on occasion for the Cherryboys defloration:PDT_Xtremez_14: . I noticed the young ladies in the protected regions looked like they were clean, enjoyed their work and weren't traumatised. Take a wander round soho or parts of other British cities and see the difference.
Take the crime out of the sex industry and the employees benefit by earning the right to enjoy their work.

It might stop whoever is running amok in Suffolk at the moment as well. These vendors sell a commodity which is obviously in demand, legalise it and get some revenue from it. That can be put into the local Police forces budget to help keep the area safer.

Its all down to perception isn't it?
We can be such prudes when it comes to even talking about sex, especially with our parents in the UK...If we perceive the natural act of heterosexual sex as being 'verboten' then Prostitution has no chance of acceptance...
I remember being in a t*tty bar last year in Key West...I'm not amazingly into these places myself but my colleagues can't get enough of them and the air conditioning in them always seems to be better than standard bars...cough...anyway there was this stag party in from upstate somewhere and the grooms dad paid for his son to get a lap dance on the big stage...2 girls did the 'dance' in the end and it was helluva funny...this bloke horsed around pretending to try and escape and his family were p*ssing themselves...It was an almost natural occurence for all the family to pay for this event and enjoy watching it...there perception, because it was a legal, clean, not ripping you off drinks wise and fun place was that of just another bar that had naked girls in it...Our perception over here is that of £10 to buy the lady a glass of sh*t wine, underground industry filled with vice and filth...
So if we legalised it, taxed it, administered to it and enjoyed it we would eventually lose the stigma that is never far away and probably free up some police at the same time..

When I was at LBH (90-93) one of the lads had a gold card for one of the establishments just over the border. He was so addicted to it that on several occasions he cycled there cos he didn't have enough money for petrol and a jump. Theres dedication for you.
I had my 25th birthday in Belize and the lads, under protest from me, chipped in to pay for me to visit a lovely young venzeulan lady at Rauls Rose Garden. We had a great 'conversation' if I remember rightly.:PDT_Xtremez_15:

Until my ex wife (the bitch) left me, I never frequented such establishments. However, I have to ask what OWO is

And a fourth has gone missing:

Timed nicely with the arrival of ILLBW as well...he'd have just about had time to drive out of Suffolk, get back to Strike Command , burn his clothes, shower and smash himself in the face to save the time of somebody else doing it then post on here...

Without what??
Paying? Blowing your manfat? Apologising? Taking her out for a nice meal? Getting engaged?
I believe that prostitution is not illegal, but soliciting and keeping a brothel is. I agree with the sentiments about controlling it though.
Talking about legalising the whole industry is all well and good, but what is going to happen when the Tories get at the next election? Remember at the weekend all that hot air from IDS about going back to victorian values? Would that include a victorian approach to prostitution?

Depends what he meant by "Victorian values". There were - per head of population - far more (and far younger) prostitutes around in the nineteenth century than there are today.
Sorry to p+ss on your firework Vim Fuego, but legalising prostitution would not stop the illegals. Here in good ol Germany there are plenty/too many illegal/slave girls working on their backs. Why? because they are desparate for cash and the punters get a cheap girl. Martket forces or capitalism at its worst.:PDT_Xtremez_34: ::/: However the German tax man does get some cash in from the legal trade.:PDT_Xtremez_28:
We raided a load of brothels in Cambridge a while back.
The look on the punters face when me and my mate came through the door was pure comedy. Definately caught in the act !
If you look up sheepish in the dictionary it should have a pic of him. We even suggested he asked for a partial refund. He didn'r get the joke.
