Yesterday all 16 in Arsenals squad were foreign players, not an Englishman or even a fellow member of the British Isles in the squad. Do you think that its about time the clubs should have to include british players in there squads. Are we in danger of not producing home grown talent if all the top sides eventually turn completely continental.

What your getting at is (laughingly) referred to as positive discrimination. whereby a token number of players of some sort of demograph would have to be included to be 'fair'. This is no different to the fire service having to have 6% black recruits, or the police having to recruit 8% of its new recruits who are gay.

The only way to run a football club, public service, or business is to have the best people in the job. If that means that the whole fire service is chinese, or the whole police force is gay or all of arsenals players are foreign it doesnt matter. They are the best for the job and should be allowed to do the job.

Much as I agree with the sentiments, that having so many foreign players can have a detrimental effect on our national squad, I have to fully agree with skevans, that why should a foreign player be descriminated against if he is the best person for a job. How would you like it if you were turned down for a job because they had to give it to somebody else in order to maintain their ethnic quota.

It also seems to have been a case lately that British (and especially English) players seem to command higher transfer fees than foreign players of equal or higher abilities, so it is often in a managers interests to import players from overseas to get better value for money.

But surely people are already being turned down for jobs in the police etc so that they can maintain their ethnic quotas.

does that make it right?

What I was trying to say, is that I disagree with these quotas in etablishments such as the police, etc. so why should the same principles that I disagree with be adopted in football?

Many of the public services now run positive discrimination.
The brigade I work for attend ethnic events to hand out applications, they also have ethnic/female only entance events were they assist women/ethnic minority through the entrance exams.
Also when we recruit we now only seem to advertise in the black/ethnic orientated press.
Its the future. Apparently.
