Well it's a MMORPG racing (?!) game, but I've been playing it for quite a while now.

Project Torque -> project-torque.aeriagames.com/download

Start off with a pants little car, drive your ass off, and level up. the higher the level the more is open to you (circuits, upgrades, etc) But the bit where they do try to make money off you is that you can bolster your "cash" with vouchers. Most of the commercial stuff (RX7, Camaro, etc) you have to pay for.

Still it is a good laugh, and a lot better than the demo for Live for Speed that I was having a bash at the other week!

Is it anything like Trackmania nations forever mate ?

The only demo I have tried lately is Left 4 dead. While I was playing it those cheeky fekkers at Valve downloaded a locked copy to my HDD just in case I wanted buy it. The demo is now time expired and I only got to play it through the once. It looked okay, but I'm not sure it was 40 odd dollars worth of okay.

Well it is in the respect that you can play as much as you like on it. The way they make their money out of kids though is by having them buy "Aeria Points" from their site. That can then turn into the latest car or upgrade, but you can also earn points which is a damn sight slower. Just like any MMORPG, you have to race to level up, race to get points, and there is quite a few different varieties of race on it.

From their cars page (http://project-torque.aeriagames.com/info/cars)

Due to licensing agreements with the car manufacturers, we must sell cars for AP only. We will be doing several giveaway events with cars as rewards to try to compensate for this fact.

I know what you mean about left for dead. Played the demo once next time it said "Pay me $44.99 or else!" That got deleted and so worth the 3 gb or so download.
