I don't know if this is usual, but you can get a free one month Gold membership by just joining Xbox live. If you don't mind changing your name slightly this can be done indefinitely.

Do those sites actually work, as I find it dodgy that you can get Microsoft codes cheaper from somewhere other than Microsoft if you know what I mean.
