View Full Version : AT to NZ - need some help.
I am shortly going on AT to New Zealand and as part of it we are going to be visiting a Maori Village, where they greet you with a traditional Maori welcome. All well and good, but we then have to respond with........ well something.
I was wondering if you guys had any ideas of anthems (Not the national one please) or little songs or ditties that we could respond with.
It was suggested that a rugby anthem along the lines of Swing low etc etc, but they probably get that all the time from those visiting from the UK. So am looking for something clean and wholesome with a bit of fun.
Any ideas...... Anyone???
Don't worry you will be breifed on the correct etiquette and response, usually a respondee is also provided. Anything other than this is regarded as an insult, just any old little song or dit is a no no.
Well there you go. You learn something new every day. Thanks for stopping us from making a cultural faux pas!
But, would they really be offended or would they just look at us and think "what a bunch of pomme t!ts"?

You need to dress up in white clothes, and do a morris dance for them. You'll look really cool
Ha ha fantastic idea. Maybe we could take a maypole with us.:PDT_Xtremez_28:

Its something the Maori tend to take very seriously and have a sense of humour failure about if you don't follow the ritual to the letter. Depending on where you go you can also expect some pomme baiting and Queen bashing, although if your going to a touristy type event I'm sure there'll be none of this in sight. But anyway enjoy your time over here; Where abouts in NZ is it your going to?
We're starting off in Christchurch, then on to the Heaphy trail for 4 days
1 night Picton before ferry to Wellington.
Then on to Taupo for 4 days.
2 nights in Rotarua.
Back to taupo for a week.
Last day in Auckland.
Pretty hectic scheule, but should be an awesome trip. Ive been before but spent most of it in Auckland and didnt really see any of the country.
