Does the RAF still pay long service pay/increments?

What we used to call 'increments' before pay 2000 is now a thing of the past, I believe this was replaced by the fact that we now get incremental pay rises within the ranks, so you are essentially being rewarded for your time served by being in a higher pay band for that rank.

Hope this answers your question

It does. Thank you.

Its just that we've (firefighters) have been told that incremental pay "potentially discriminates" against some members of the workforce, so we've had to lose it.

Strange, since nurses have incremental pay. See this link (http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/salaries/scales/sq0_cur.shtml).

Sounds like another excuse to shaft u lot.

However they have given you a two tier pay system, what with competent and development pay. Therefore giving the younglings something to work towards.

I find it hard to beleive that anyone can be discriminated against when it comes to long service increments. After all if the increments are for example at the ten year point tthen anyone who serves ten years should be paid it. How can it be discriminatory to have to earn a pay perk?

Nurses have now gone on to a pay 2000 stylee scale called Agenda For Change. No more, well in most NHS trusts, does the old D, E, F, etc grading exist. It's Band 4, Band 5, etc. They still get incremental yearly rises untill they reach the peak of the band in which they fall (like pay 2000).

Well you are sort of right.
There used to be incremental pay (15 year money for a firefighter) but it has been taken away and is to be replaced with CPD (continual profesional development).

CPD isn't pensionable, and won't be of the same value as 15 year money. In effect, 15 year firefighters have taken a £1000 p.a pay cut, plus the loss of pensionable earnings.

As for the 2 tier system you speak of, we used to have it anyway. You were paid the lower rate untill you qualified (after 4 years), the next and last pay rise was 15 year money.
Now those taking promotion get paid the development rate for doing the same job as someone competant!
Just another way to shaft us.

I am not completely up to sped with the ins and outs of your pay formula as you can tell, just the general gist of things.

The trouble with CPD and IPDS is it is ineffectual in most parts of the country, sorting out who is in development and who is competent is a very difficult decision and is causing problems in every brigade that I have had dealings with.

Rank to role was easy to start off with, but promotions and internal moves are the biggest cause of concern. Inter brigade transfers are also causing problems.

My wife's trust is still on the Whitley scale, they will transfer to agenda for change in October. There are still increments in agenda for change tho.
