Been given a head start that 101 could be a possible posting for me.
So I have trawled through the relevant previous posts about Brize and I wondered whether anything had changed for the better/worse since last year?
So to help me make up my mind I'd thought I'd ask for relevant opinions and experiences.
Will need a quarter and would like a 3 bed although I am only entitled to a 2 bed. Any new ones being built, old ones refurbed? Reccomendations of specific streets? Pics would be informative! Obviously home life makes all the difference.
Broadband any good?
Secondary school. Any good? Master Masher is now 13 and by the time we move he'll be into his 3rd year of secondary school and picking his GCSE's.
Shift pattern on 101? How is the place? I'm a heavy (legacy rigger) and dont mind hard graft.
What do you reckon? Brize or no?
Feel free to PM me if there any persec issues with gen!

Brize is good matey. Although personally i wouldn't want VC10's. Tristar's or c17's are the way ahead as 10's are to old and always Knakkered. Lots of different sorts of houses you can always chance your arm and ask for a 3 bed as there are some empty ones. No new houses at present and most of the Mq's look sh!te from outside but are very nice inside and quite roomy. Can't help with schools as have no kids and broadband seems ok.
You know you are entitled to a visit to look at houses, schools etc at her Maj's expense.

Masher,
I think you need to pop down to see what BZN Qtrs are like if you haven't seen them before. My Mrs said if i ever got posted there she was off!! SAying that you might get a decent one rather than the flats. Good luck

Bloody typical of the MOD! Didn't stop them moving families back into the condemned ones here when the station got full up!

Not flats, the Qs at Collyweston, right dumps.

Thought that had stopped! I'd been told that we wern't entitled to any expenses to visit our new camp, as it is now supposed to be covered by Disturbance Allowance.

Most flats are lived in by single parents and week-end only dads, some flats been knocked down, but it seems to be new married lac/sac with no kids who get put in some of the flats till a house or kids come along

Helian is quite right - there is no entitlement to go and look at SFA prior to a posting within the UK. I left Brize last March and although the patch does look a bit like down town Beirut the houses weren't actually that bad. The ones up around Faulder and Falcon Close were quite good on the inside and there are still plenty of empty 3 beds up around there from what I hear from friends still in the area - even more coming up soon as TCW move up to Leeming. No gen on schools tho' as little scribbly was at primary school.

There are 4 shifts at 101 operating 12 hour days and nights covering 24/7 and two Heavy Rects shifts operating normal extended days.
The 24 hr shifts are 2 days 2 nights 5 off 2 days 3 nights 4 off 3 days 2 nights 5 off then repeated. The whole cycle starts on a Monday which means you will work every other weekend, a weekend on nights and one on days.
Work load can vary and tends to be more heavy oriented but there is always a long term dead jet or two to keep you active.
Trips to Al Udeid are a month at a time in teams led by GEs. Turnaround time depends on your legacy trade. Four month OOAs tend to be down South rather than anywhere hot and sandy.

Cheers everyone for the replies.
I might well have a bash at trying for Brize unless anything else crops up that seems a better offer.:PDT_Xtremez_30:
