View Full Version : Redundancy shortfall ??

I was wondering what the rest of you were hearing, as here in the sunny Midlands the word is that there is a shortfall in applications for redudancy for Rigger/Sootie across all ranks.

If this is right do we get a reverse promotion board or dump the lame and unfit first?

That would be a logical thing to do, so most likely will not happen. I would guess it will be based on how much it would cost them to get rid of any forced redundancies rather than the ability of the people they would ditch.

So someone that has applied for redundancy and the said shortfall happens, the applicant is on 5's and specs with a recent commendation. Should he still get it even with a shortfall ? or should they just use the oppurtunity to ditch the dross ?

I sometimes feel there is no pattern or criteria and it's all done in a pin the tail on the donkey style.

If there is a shortfall in aplicants, then surely everybody that asked for redundancy would get it, regardless of how god/useful they are, before they start making forced redundancies.

Would somebody who was given compulsorary redundancy rather than volunteering be eligable for a bigger payoff than somebody who volunteered though?

hey slack jaw, what on earth is a remoster?
what does shud mean?
and what does yous refer to?
When do you arrive in the CCS section at Lossie?
Do they know what a tool they are getting?

Liney Hasbeen
03-07-2006, 14:45
Indeed they should, this would be the fair way to appease the selected.

Will it happen, not so sure. I seem to remember in the early 90's that the compulsorys had longer notice, a year I think it was ?? Not sure about the cash side of it though..........anyone know ?

Actually young man, to change trades is to REMUSTER.
And yes I believe the blocks here are quite good, they are relatively new.
Funny, I guessed you were single.

No I am not in charge of a block, however being such a roughie-toughie rock then any shell scrape should be enough for you, why do you want a good room, its not as if anyone else will be going in there is it?Off Topic

Hi. New to Egoat,

I really hope they are short of volunteers (although i very much doubt it!), I missed out by a couple of months so maybe they might just extend the "joined before date"! Lets hope.

Why on Earth would anybody want to "remoster" (thick t#at) to RA Ra RAF REG?

What do you get for that?

A life of CCS, or going in and digging slip trenches. Fu#k that, techies check in not dig in.

At the end of yous time, what do yous get other than a sh1t security job working nights for sh1t pay with a load of thick Meekons, telling your pathetic war stories on how yous bullied and shouted at young boy’s cos they didn’t know the colour of the Bio hazard triangle. You could get a job in Asda in Elgin as a greeter helping out the one armed girl on the door by pointing out the way to the meths, cos that’s all you could now afford to drink, cos yous got no brain.

As for the techies amongst us, the World is our oyster. Good pay and good prospects because we are intelligent.

Sir Jock isn't CAS any more Purple Shocker, it's Sir Glenn Torpy now, Sir Jock's gone up to CDS. Didn't you see his emotional message in the press recently?
Well, at least the CDS is RAF, even if he is a jockey.

War fighter first? What a load of crap. I seem to recall that this has been said years ago but was quietly dropped when the aeroplanes didn't fly as much as they should. Regardless of what is said we are still the Royal AIR Force and as such our primary buisness is dropping bombs on people. Everything else is secondary to that and is ignored when push comes to shove. All **** taking aside, line infantryman is a specialist trade just as much as any in the techie branch and no nice little phrases can turn one tradseman into a competent version of the other.

when I was at Honington (when it was still a flying station) doing GDT my crusty old FS was struggling with the newly introduced L85, cue rock ape sarcasm regarding techies.
crusty FS gets all shirty and says "Corporal, report to my office tomorrow with a three thousand word dissertation about waveguide theory and why we use 1/4 Lamda wavelengh"

Rocky stutters" b.b.b.b.b.but that's not part of my job FS"

"exactly Boy" says crusty "and this sh1te is not part of mine"

:PDT_Xtremez_30: :PDT_Xtremez_30: :PDT_Xtremez_30: Wish I had been there to see that, bet the whole room fell about laughing. As for Warfighter 1st, Specialist 2nd, I am one of the "lucky(?!!!)" 50 that are part of the CAS Forum, where you can get to discuss topics with the CAS himself. One of the topics is the warfighter statement, and the news from the top is - that is the way forward. Being a techie myself, I take the point completely about frames in the sky, but when you consider the plan for 2010 that the average time away is 4 months in every 12 or 16, and the places that is likely to be, I can see more of us being put in the "warfighter" role, AND have to carry out our primary trade as well. Those that can get out, now is the time before it really goes to rat sh1t! As much as I hate this, this backs up the (retard) PS (somebody shoot me please!!):PDT_Xtremez_21:

I came out with redundancy in 94, voluntary, I believe the terms for compulsory redundancy were identical, it was a long time ago though so I could be wrong.

Actually he's not the chief of the Air staff that would be Mr Torby. Mr Strapon (ex chief of the air staff) actually said we "should" be war fighters first which is inflection which in its self is different than the deflection your chin will be doing outside Jo spanners when I see you.

Heard a top rumour in the Bar last night that there are shortfalls in TG1 for SAC/JT, FS & WO - looks like a few compulsary's on the cards!

Pity they didn't want more CT, Sgt or Cpl's as I'm sure they'd have had more than enough volunteers! :PDT_Xtremez_25:

I'm not surprised that there is a shortfall. I think those idiots in Glasgow have well and truly fcuked up all the redundancy forecasts.

I've done 11 years, I'm signed on to 15 and applied for a redundancy forecast.

I calculated that I should have been getting around £42k, but when the forecast arrived (with less than 3 weeks before the deadline) it said less than £9k.

I phoned up to query it and was told to send an e-mail, to which I never received a reply. I then phoned and finally got my phonecall returned with 2 days to go. I was told that they could only go on my current circumstances which meant the forecast was based on 1 months pay for each remaining year of sevice, plus one month.

I pointed out that there is a paragraph in the redundancy DCI that states, and I quote

"Personnel serving on engagements to complete 22 years or more, or engagements in excess of 12 years provided there is no evidence that they would not have been engaged for, or been refused, an extension of service to at least 22 years, will be granted a tax-free special capital payment on discharge by reason of redundancy as set out below."

I then jump to Para 4c of the DCI (page 19)

Personnel with less that 12 years' qualifying service:

Years of Completed Service ..............................Special Capital Payment

Years............................................. .................Months' Pay

11 years............................................. ............19 Months

This to me says my calculations were correct, I told the bloke that I should be due promotion very soon (Well, one can only hope!!!) and definitely before my 15 years were up, the bloke in Glasgow still insisted that the forecast was correct, and re-iterrated the fact that they could only base the forecast on my current circumstances. To55er!!

It seems to me that it was a complete waste of time them even putting Para 4 in the DCI in the first place.

I couldn't risk putting in for the Big 'R' just in case I did end up with less than £9k

I'm spewing though about the whole thing. That £42k was just what I needed to set me up and my family up for our future plans. Fcuk Fcukity Fcuk Fcuk Fcuk!!!!
