216 is extremely busy at present. We have just had a manning review and are circa 50 people undermanned (possibly where your posting has come from?)

We have 1 Squadron Det which you will take your turn on with everybody else and you will do around 6 weeks at a time, a few times a year. You can also go down route with the aircraft as SVC when suitably qualified and these vary from a daytrip to the sandpit to a week or so to the States. (as an SAC you will be doing these fairly regularly)

Time off for sport is tight (unless you play golf) as is leave.

The PVR rate is quite high at present, although that is RAF wide so not sure how representative that is.

On my shift at least we tend to try to have a decent social life, something that your plan to live out may not help?

To be honest i cant wait to get their life is easy where i am but it is mundane to say the least. Glad to hear golfers get preffrence as i do play but hopefully i will be able to sort somthing out with the other sports as i am cs level at two of them. As for PVR rate it cant be as high as benson where many of my co workers are getting shipped off to.
cheers for the gen.

I turned down a move to 216 today (PVR is signed by boss and is into PSF tomorrow). I would have taken it, however wife pressures and having got pension time already was the deciding factors.

Manning I'm told is short (didn't a lot of guys get shipped to Marham???)

Mate at Brize says that heavy rects section is on the way. Good way of getting B1 experience..... However the shift for this job is not good I'm told...

Shame....:S :S

We're getting our posting through in the secretive yellow helichopper world.
As far as I know only one person has Brize.

The other postings we know of are 5 for Benson and 2 for Odiham, we have a tally board up to see which of the 2 camps get the most of us posted to it!!

Still awaiting mine..............:PDT_Xtremez_42:

My shift has quite a high morale even though we've lost people to other shifts with no timescale for getting replacements. About a third of the combined Avionics desk has pvr'd but doesn't stop us getting the work done.

Middle east det is what you make it (prefer more than just a bar and going to a hotel to sunbathe, but typical make do RAF setup).

Leave is now a complete farce as people are being forced to cancel leave because to many people are off (max amount on the Fairy desk is 2 out of 9 but only if there's enough NCO cover and only 1 AMM on leave on my desk at a time except when they get di**ed for Herrick trips or tool stores)

Time off is good, only work 14 days in every 28 so half the year off basically

More ranting available

Which shift are you on Weebl?

216 Sqn is great. It is the Royal Air Forces Premier Tristar Sqn. Also they have probably got the best Coffee machine in the history of T-Bars ::P:

216 was ace when I was on it, lots of social time and very little flying....mind you that was a while ago as it had Buccaneers back then!

Correct.

Unfortunately it had no coffee in it all weekend.

Still, that only affects us shifties that get loads of time off.

Aahhh never mind. maybe you will have to get one of your shift tea bar stock controllers to actually do the job they claim they do on their assessments.
What are us Non Shifties supposed to do if you shifties don't maintain the coffee machine at night and at weekends??? :PDT_Xtremez_32:

Absolutely.

Apart from the fact the company charge more to deliver at weekends and the main T-Bar won't spring for it.

Bit rare to find 'shifty tossers' sleeping these days fella, maybe you 'day shift shirkers' are living in the past?;)

216 is a good Squadron with a brilliant bunch of lads. I can only think of one c0ck who 'works' there and he is very rarely there anyway.

Following on, as already mentioned if Golf is your sport of choice then your sorted, anything else is bloody hard work.

Loads of Acting rank guys from Cpl up to C/T, just don't expect the pay any time soon, we've had some blokes waiting years for their pay to be sorted out! I don't think are interests are being looked after here properly?

Younger lads get the choice to go away quite a bit, older guys not so much. The Coffee machine is pretty good when it works.
Stewards make me laugh but I've heard they make some of the Aircrew cry :raf: Bless them!

With limited RAF postings these days, Brize and 216 is probably one of the best places to be IMHO.

Cheers

You would have thought that having over 50 "Trolley Dolleys" on the Sqn they would have sorted out the T-Bar given it is half of there basic trade. But no its left to the Techies to run it and sort it out. Before much longer you will have other trades manning main gates and checking passes instead of the Rozzers doing it!!! ::/:

Ahhhh 216 squadron. If the airforce had more detachments like 216 had, No fekker would leave. I was there for five glorious fun filled years. Italy was fun for all concearned. One of our lekkies at the time invented a drink out there. He got friendly with the owners of a bar and they let him invent this thing. All I can remember was that it was of blue colour and blew your bloody head off. Even Ascenion was a right laugh. All that drinking in the Volcano club, memories:S Looking back on it, it's still got to be one of better postings still going in the Air force. The only thing I regret was not doing my B1 licences. Though i was still young and wanted to go everywhere. I almost did.:PDT_Xtremez_28:

What the one in sunny Oman cos that's the only one nowadays and the talk is that we'll be moving in a couple of years to somewhere even more remote in Oman. Something to look forward to !!!!!!!!!!!

Cups are the problem not the coffee machine, that's definately a steward problem.

One shift to go then 43 days off.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Do you still have the giraffe like GE? if so then you may be supprised to hear that for his height he's $hite at bottle walking. Does Mobey/Doormouse still work there as well? If so direct him to this site and get the little fecker to sign up as he seems to have a great ability to ignore his e-mails.
