Did anyone watch "Can we save planet earth?" ? Sir David Attenborough strikes again.

Can this man not make bad TV? He has this fantastic ability to grab your attention from the starting credits.

Out of all the programmes he has made, this must be the one with the hardest impact. It will make me address the way I leave things on etc.

Fantastic TV, wish they would show it in the USA, make the septics think about their "Chelsea Tractor Brigade", in fact I would like to think it makes our own SUV brigade think

Aye a good program, easy to watch and good entertainment too, with a punchy message.

If you ever want to do a good course do the Intro to EP at Halton. Top quality course and will open your eyes even more to our plight.

A good programme indeed and shows that we can all do our bit to save the planet for our children. However the whole world needs to get involved especially the US and China - could you believe the amount of coal powered power stations they are going to build each week! I know we have no right to say that they can't have what we have already got so thats why everybody has to get on board and come up with the best solutions for all - NOW

I concur with Almost Done. I did the Intro to EP course a couple of years back, and it really opens your eyes. Gets a bit depressing in bits, but only because it doesn't pull any punches about some of the issues it covers. If anyone wants to go down the EP line before leaving, I highly recommend it. If you are thinking about a career in EP once you leave (and lets face it - the subject is hardly going to go away any time soon), the 7 courses they do at DSMT at Halton can be put towards a degree in EP. Seriously considering myself, especially as the courses at Halton are free!

So what do these courses entail? and can anybody apply or do you have to be in a post that requires you to be ultra genned up EP wise?

I can endorse the views of almost_done and uplander, so far this year I have done Introduction to Environmental Protection, Foundation in Environmental Auditing, and Environmental Management System (EMS) Implementation. they were all good courses and are accredited with civillian organisations, IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment) and for £12:00 you can get a certificate from IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety ahd Health) if you do more than 1 course save up all the IEMA certificates and get them all done in a oner. In total there are 10 courses on offer, in addition to the ones I have done there are

EP law and policy
Waste Management
Land and Water
Air and noise
Introduction to utilities management
Conservation
Practical pollution prevention and control
the energy warden course can be completed by E-learning

These are useful courses and I'm about the least tree-huggy type person you could ever meet! but it's got me stopping using standby on electrical equipment and bollocking people leaving lights monitors, etc on in empty offices.
