I volunteered on Monday for a job, only to be told by my drafter I will NOT move untill I have done 12 months in post. I got picked up end of April So I've had my tapes 6 months now with associated posting.
Is there some kind of way out of this rule? I seemed to remember lots about having to spend 12 months, but I thought that was location and not individual post! Although that could be me confusing my thread a while back on exchange allowances. Shall I stop trying to repair them tunnels I've been digging away at?

Is it a job at the same Unit? If so, it would make it easier.
There is a rule in place that personnel who have report writing responsibilities must do 18 months in post.
The "12 month" one is largely an unwritten one. I know of many who have lasted less than 12 months, however the drafters will always use "Service Reasons" to keep or move someone - its their untrumpable trump card.

What that means is that you're probably at a unit that the drafters find it difficult to find volunteers for and he's using the '12 month' rule to save himself a bit of work! I think it is an unwritten rule as said above, and if you could get Flt Cdr's/Chf Clk on side they may be able to speak to the drafter, or his boss, to try and get you an explaination at the very least if not the post you want.
People do get moved earlier if it's to the advantage of the Career Manager so just ask a few questions; it should help if the post is at the same unit but not necessarily.
Stand-by for flack from ex-drafters!!
