Well here we are, Englands dads army playing ugly to get to another final. Facing them will be the team I picked for the tri-nations (whilst saying that NZ would win the world cup, hmmm, got it backwards perhaps).
Since there will undoubtedly be a lot of talk and conjecture this week, we have a thread to air it.
I for one find myself with a bit of a dilema. I have been seeing my partner for 7 months now and have been invited to a family wedding reception. Yep you guessed it - this saturday!! As I'll be playing in the afternoon, I'll be facing the prospect of LEAVING the club before the final even begins.
Do I tell her I'll be down after the game
or
make a judgement that if SA get a double digit lead that its effectively all over and leave when it happens.
advice please

Id go for the double digit lead.
for the reaosn that if they do, England would have, and should have exhausted everything they've got to stop em so far, and hence have no more to give.
If our defence was as solid as sat, and we dont give away stupid handling errors, and they dont bring DeBeers out of retirement for 6 drop goals I reckon you might see the full time out....
here's hoping. I think its possible, esp if theres some 'revenge' motivation buzzing aorund our changing room pre kick-off.

Remember AB trouched everybody in 95 the came across the stubbon ox called SA.
However the French hammered the AB in 99 and came massively undone against Austrailia in the Final.
My head cannot see England doing it on Saturday, even if we play to the top of our ablilities. But it is a cup final and stranger things have happened. If England go into 91 Final mode, they will lose...

I would be surprised if there was not a TV at the venue somewhere, failing that find the nearest pub to the venue and run through every excuse in the book for disappearing on a regular basis!!!
As long as Farrell is kept off the pitch - we'll be fine (well apart from Sackey, still don't think he should be there)
Anyone else notice - we stop playing Farrell, England play well................

In the battle of the dignitaries, it's a no contest. Prime Minister Gordon Brown will be attending Saturday's match as a guest of the RFU, but the Boks have got that trumped. Yes, Nelson Mandela has been invited and may this time be sporting the number two jersey of captain John Smit if he is able to travel.
Jake White reckons England are favourites despite beating them 36-0 the other week. Citing the grounds that this group of players won England the world cup. I think he had too many sherberts last night!

Nice bit of mind games being played by Jake White I think. As for the Rugby or Reception question, only one winner, got to be the rugby.

My feeling exactly. If you ain't the groom, giving the bride away or the best man is a no-brainer.
Cool running film the insparation for the team READ HERE (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml;jsessionid=FUN1SHRKPN51ZQFIQMGCFF4AVCBQ UIV0?xml=/arts/2007/10/19/bfmust119.xml)

I`m playing my final game tomorrow. I thought it would be quite fitting.
I started aged 11 (playing 10) moved through various positions 2, 11, and 14, and have decided after 30 years playing(thats right I`m 41) an opportunity to have a final run out and then go to the bar and watch England Win the World cup final was too much to pass up. If I only get one win tomorrow ... Sorry Rogues we`ve lost ...
Best thing I`ve ever heard on a Rugby field ... Ref speaking to a couple of flankers after ... er ... difference of opinion.
" If you want to box go find a ring. You want to play rugby stay here and obey my whistle "

A proper Welsh wedding, the women drinking and moaning, the men in the bar watching the game..... which then dominates the best mans speech...... ah memories :PDT_Xtremez_28:

I'd forgotten to announce the result of my dilema.
It appears that the groom has been told in no uncertain terms that unless he has a screen showing the rugby, there are going to be very few guests at his reception:PDT_Xtremez_14: (not by me though!) So I'll be able to watch the game on cheap beer!
Everyone goes home happy. (apart from the ones who go to hospital..... well it is a family wedding!)

Last nights game had nothing on it, Tait and Catt played well but the SA's did a job in defence. To be fair England did better than I ever expected, well done to BA for making a team out of the players he inherited.
More importantly well done to SA for winning the World Cup.

You must have been watching a different game to me then.
I suppose it might also have been the deliberate block, the foot into touch in the dead ball zone, the slippery pitch AND the dissalowed try. Then again it might just be that the best team on the night won.
Welldone England for putting up a show and at least giving SA someone to play against. Well done SA on a well deserved RWC!

Same game, different eyes, I don't agree with this asking a tv ref. have the balls to make the call or let someone else adjudicate on teh pitch.
Well done RSA, I stil think England were robbed though.

I have just got home from a serious drinking session with 7 SA Fans.
A fablous night.
However Auldmuchty, Alain Rolland's decisions on obstruction defy gravity.
The TMO decision on the try.... His foot was not in touch when the ball was grounded. He had 6 views of it and more doubtful tries have been given on LESS PROOF.
Game over. Hamilton will be WDC tomorrow (No TMO required, thank god!)
Oh well, 4 more years listening to Jim Rosyballs whingeing about the 'try' that never was. :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Oh yes we did, 27 points to 18. It might have been the only game we won in the 2007 6 Nations but we have a mantra: "As long as we beat the English", so it counted as a successful tournament for us.
There is another mantra: "2nd place is the first loser". See you at Twickers in February. :PDT_Xtremez_28:

The Welsh love to dream.
Unfortunately I will be in Basrah. However it will be not surprizing to see the usual story of England giving you your customary Twickers thrashing.

It was not a try.
The officials got it right.
The best team on the night won.
We didnt deserve to be there on pre tournament form so why is everyone upset - we had a great tournament. If, before the tournament started, they had offered a loss in the final after beating France and Australia on the way there. YOU WOULD HAVE BITTEN THEIR HANDS OFF!!! anyone that says otherwise is lying, or would have settled for not making the final.
Now about that try, on the view looking up the touchline, yes his foot was in the air when the ball gets grounded. What people fail to say is that it is on the line when it leaves the ground. As such, he is in touch and therefore no try can be given.
On a lighter note, ran touch for the Army U23 v Cambridge Uni team yesterday and the Army were awful. If the play like that in the U23 inter services we stand a chance of winning the tournament. As we habitually win the Vets tournament as well, all we need to do is get the Navy to help out with a win at Twickers (as the army will win the womens) in May and we could claim to be overall IS champions.:PDT_Xtremez_28:

It now appears that Stuart Dickinson is claiming that Cueto's foot was '25-30 cm' over the line! And that he did not have access to slow motion or freeze frame replays due to not being able to speak the same language as the television people. So he made his decision based on actual speed replays and who could have anticipated a French TV director who spoke French.
Anyway, even if it wasn't a try, surely the fact that Cueto went so close despite Burger slowing the ball illegally should have meant a penalty try and a yellow card (to match the one Moody should have got for his first half trip I may add).
I think the end result was the right one but it would be nice to have not had any dodgy decisions during the game. We had enough of that last time.
Mind you, if Steve Walsh had been the TMO, SA would have had a penalty try, Cueto would have been red carded for being English and Tait would have been red carded for running too fast.
