The point is they've been bought 'just in case'. Why not do it as an 'allowance' like the WRAFs (used?) to get for tights etc?Then if someone wants one/some they can buy it/them and then claim for them.
This smacks very much of Stores are for storing, if they were for issuing they would be called Issues.

Not sure on that, but the Sikhs even fell foul of the PC Brigade when the MOD scrapped the plan to form a Regiment of British Sikhs.
Like the Gurkhas, The Sikhs have a long and distinguished heritage of serving with the British Military.

They are not stabbing the troops in the back though, are they. It's not the troops that have come up with this idea and implemented it, it's the idiots at the top.
Just a thought though, unless I have to prove to clothing stores that I'm a muslim woman, I'm off to pick mine up!!!

I must have not explained my point clearly.
Today they have a pop at the MOD.
Tommorow they will have a pop at squaddies letting their hair down at a party and publishing the pics in the Scum toilet paper like they normally do.
I do hope the powers that be are fully checking out any muslim who joins the forces.Just think that a militant of any creed could do if they reached a position of trust.

We all pass through a system of vetting in the forces. To suggest that muslims should be considered for having any less, or any more vetting than the rest of us on the grounds of which religion they follow is naive and stupid.

Didn't people from Northern Ireland get extra vetting at the height of the troubles? When I joined up I was told my vetting would take longer and be more thorough than somebody from the mainland, because of where I was from.
How is it any different?

Slow down a bit Yossarian, dogman was only saying what a lot of people are thinking. The only people actively involved in killing our servicemen on a regular basis are indeed muslims, but only radical muslims not mainstream muslims. I for one would expect a more rigorous vetting of muslim recruits to ensure there is no evidence of radicalism in their background, simply to reassure those who serve alongside muslim servicemen that they have no need to have concerns over where their loyalty lies.
I knew quite a few muslims in the mob and most were sound guys who never let their religion get in the way of doing their job. Back in the 70s we sweated on Irish catholics for good reasons and back in the 70s we applied the same logic to all Irish when it came to vetting them, until we knew who we could trust we distrusted them all. But when we met somebody in a blue suit with an Irish accent there was never a question that he was "a bad un" because we trusted the vetting system to weed them out.
Not racist or anti a specific religion simply a common sense approach to security that in todays PC worls is unacceptable so when dogman says ;-

He really does have a valid point, are sufficiently rigorous checks being carried out into a new recruits religious background and place of worship, remember we have more than one "Finsbury Park" mosque.

Indeed you did get extra vetting but that worked in everybody's favour it meant when we had an Irishman on a unit he was never under suspicion of being anything other than the same as the rest of us. Whats more it worked and was never treated as a big deal.
